"It's... not a situation I am used to." She let the bag of books slide down her arm to rest on the ground, and sat on a rather conveniently positioned bench against the wall. "Still, I'm always there for my friends." Her brow furrowed slightly at the thought. "Just... don't get into a fight with Tifa or Quistis." The blonde smiled slightly. "Impossible though such a clash would be to avoid, of course..." she added jokingly. The two girls were probably her best friends, and she couldn't quite imagine a situation where Ren wouldn't get along with them... except maybe concerning rules. That said, her discovery the other day was not something she would be sharing, for a plethora of reasons.
"Genesis is inclined to be Genesis," Swan said seriously, even as a smile tugged at her lips. "...It's good you told him. It'd be terrible if that ever came between you two." Her tone was teasing, although there was still some seriousness to what she was saying. Somehow, they formed a trio, and Swan was not eager to see Ren's friendships suffer because of his addiction. "You know you have the two of us you can rely on."
Ren gave a nod at what Swan was telling him. Now that it wasn’t a complete secret, he might be able to rely on both of them to help him get over his addiction. Really, Ren wanted to quit but, the physical pain was unbearable for him after a while and the psychological dependancy was just as bad. If the others could help him get him past that, then he would be able to recover hopefully before graduating.
Despite knowing them and being in some of the same classes as them, he doubted that he would have many conversations with those two girls. Tifa was the head girl and Ren found very little in common with her. Quistis on the other hand, he was on good terms with considering she could deal with Ikkaku better then he could and, in Ren’s mind, that was worth some major points. Still he had to laugh, “Not sure about Quistis but if I got into a fist fight with Tifa she would definitely be able to kick my ass so, I think I’ll avoid any confrontations.”
Going back to yesterday with Genesis, Ren could only think about that little stunt he pulled that got the other boy to blush as red as his hair. It was a pretty damn funny sight and he wished Swan could have been there to see it. Of course that reminded him of what he said to him before about Swan. “I don’t think my problems will be what come between me and Genesis,” Ren had said truthfully, “I told him more stuff then just my addictions.”
She might not know the details of what Ren was going through, but Swan had done a little research and she planned to continue. For now she would keep it to herself, but once she made some progress she would let him know.
Swan laughed quietly. "She is rather... dynamic." There were many things the Gryffindor respected about her friend, and while her fighting skills were not at the top of that list they were definitely something to be impressed by. "You don't want to underestimate Quistis, though. As far as I know, the dueling victory tally between her and Ikkaku is even, and you know how Ikkaku is." Swan would never voice the opinion out loud, but she was fairly sure that if someone found themselves up against Tifa and Quistis they would probably find themselves far beyond their depth. Simply put... she was glad Ren wasn't the kind to get into fights.
Her eyebrows rose at Ren's next comment. "...Oh? What was that?" The blonde had the faintest feeling she might know, but she wasn't jumping to any conclusions. After all, the circumstances...
[OOC: Swan was being difficult, sorry for my fail!slow. ♥ ]
“Ikkaku is pretty intense, the fact that Quistis can keep up with him and still remain calm is nothing short of amazing,” Ren said with a small laugh, “Sometimes I wonder if she’s human.” Ren knew that physically he couldn’t keep up with Ikkaku even if he tried. He really had no ability when it comes to fighting nor did he have the drive to go to the dueling club and have battles against other students. He was more of a peacemaker if anything and his idea of competition was gambling while playing cards and mah jong. Swordplay and magic really weren’t his thing.
He knew Swan was going to question him and he was pretty glad she did, despite he figured that she knew what he was talking about but just wasn’t willing to say it. “I mentioned how you found out but, it was kind of hard,” He said with a small grin, “I have to admit, I don’t remember much of what happened then because I was so out of it. So, I really have to ask, did anything else happen right after I kissed you?”
"Oh, she's definitely human." Swan smiled and looked down for a moment. "I think she maintains calm for the same reason most do. Even if she is not calm, she can at least control things so they are not quite so overwhelming." Her eyes became a little distant for a moment. Lana, Tifa, Quistis, countless others at the school. They all stayed calm because they needed to, herself no doubt included. "Dealing with the ups and downs the way Professor Rangiku or Professor Pendragon do seems nothing short of exhausting. Which is perhaps why I like Professor Ashelia so much," she explained, finally looking back at Ren. Still, for all their calm, Swan suspected that if that ever broke than the repercussions would be severe.
"Uhhh..." Swan was hoping that there wasn't a faint blush crawling up her neck, although it was entirely possible. "...No..." She cleared her throat. "No, you just fell asleep and I sat with you for a while. It was a slightly surreal experience," she noted with a wry smile.
Ren gave a small smile and continued to play. His method of staying calm has always been his cigarettes but, right now he wasn’t stressed to need one. After chain smoking a pack with Genesis in the Slytherin common room he was quite sated and lighting up another one indoors, especially in the middle of the hall, might be a bad idea right now. Besides, the weather wasn’t as freezing as it was a while ago and now he knew better then to walk out on the lake.
Ashelia’s name coming up made Ren think a bit. He was wondering how she was handling the current situation with Link. The boy was under her watch so the revelation that he was a werewolf must be bringing some stress towards their head of house. “There are times where feeling calm just isn’t enough and once faced with something where you’re emotions are wanting to surface…you end up feeling lost.” He turned to Swan slightly with a smile, “It works for some people but, after everything we’ve been through, think you can keep staying calm through all that’s going to happen?”
He kind of just stared for a second, eyebrow raised as Swan answered his question. “I just fell asleep?” He repeated with some disbelief but soon he began to laugh at the thought. Nothing loud like when he was talking with Genesis yesterday but it was still light hearted enough considering how ridiculous he thought it was. “Oh man, that’s bad,” he said with a chuckle, “I’m sorry, Swan.” He took a second to mull something over in his mind before his face split into a grin.
Swan's thoughts were running along the same lines as Ren's. Perhaps it would be a good idea to offer some support... Or perhaps not. Odds were Professor Ashelia was busy enough without the clamoring of students. Swan's eyebrows rose a little before she smiled. She leaned against the wall and glanced out of the window, the view catching her gaze as she thought over her answer. "I can try," she finally responded, and her voice had a slightly sad note to it. "All we can do it try, sometimes. I try to be calm so that if something terrible does happen... I can react in the most logical way possible." The blonde shrugged a little. "Whatever happens, I'll be the calm one."
She couldn't help laughing quietly at Ren's disbelief. "It's fine, Ren. You'd had a rough day. Putting it lighty." There was a pause as she arched an eyebrow and looked at him curiously. "Oh? ... How's that?"
Ren stopped playing momentarily to listen to Swan speak instead of his guitar. It was a good way of thinking but, Ren knew that once you get into situations, you have to worry on instinct sometimes. Thinking logically is more of an afterthought instead of a reaction. Maybe that was just Ren’s thinking because he wasn’t that calm a person, just low energy towards most things. “Calm is good but, you know, logic can’t always solve everything.” He was wondering how calm she would remain after this.
He took the strap of the guitar off his shoulders and propped the instrument up against the wall to his other side before turning around back to face Swan. He raised his hand to her face and leaned forward slightly to press his lips against hers gently, a tiny voice at the back of his head praying that she wouldn’t just sit there completely frozen this time. Then again, he did do surprising things so if she just kind of stared confused, he wouldn’t blame her. It wasn’t long before he pulled back a bit to look her in the eyes and give her a smile, “Go out with me, Swan.”
Realising that Ren has ceased his playing, Swan looked back over at him. It seemed a little ridiculous talking to Ren about the importance of being calm, truth be told. It wasn't like she could remember an instance where he'd lost it or gone off the deep end... that was a role more suited to Ikkaku, and once again Swan found herself wondering how her friend could possibly cope with dating him. Some things were to remain mysteries, it seemed. "...Maybe not, but it can be a good place to start..." She trailed off as he approached her.
And once again, Ren surprised her. Perhaps it was time to re-evaluate, because this seemed to be a recurring thing and... if it was going to keep happening, being surprised over it was... foolish. She blinked slowly as he pulled back. "Oh.... I...." Swan paused. "Okay." Her lips quirked up in a smile. Not the most dramatic of romantic scenes, but it worked for her. Closing the distance between them again, she pressed a gentle kiss against his lips.
... Well, this wasn't what she had predicted would happen today...
Of course, Ren was expecting Swan to be surprised by the offer. It was pretty random but, after everything from getting attacked by a squid, getting hospitalized and, of course, the drugs, Ren really couldn’t really see him doing much else with his time without her. It wasn’t his first time with a girl so this situation wasn’t new to him at all but, he couldn’t remember if Swan had ever gone out with anyone during their years at school so he had no idea what was going through her head at this moment.
He was a bit worried when she was hesitant though and was instinctively going to back away, thinking she was going to say no. But then she pulled him back into another kiss and he couldn’t help but give a little grin before kissing her back, his lips moving against hers while his hands moved to the back of neck and the small of her back, pulling her closer.
Swan was pretty sure the last time she'd kissed someone had been at some ill-advised party she'd attended during the summer break between Fifth and Sixth year. She was also fairly sure that if someone had asked her about this a couple of weeks ago the thought wouldn't have occurred to her. Still, as Quistis had said... sometimes things take you by surprise.
Breaking the kiss, Swan pulled back. "So, what exactly does going out with you entail?"
And she would definitely need to update Tifa and Quistis with this.
Swan pulling back from the kiss caused Ren to quirk an eyebrow at her action but began to laugh a bit at her question. “I don’t know myself half the time,” he admitted, “Whatever happens will happen and I’ll do my best to make sure that both of us enjoy it.”
He paused a bit to emphasise his point by trailing light kisses along the side of her neck, grinning slightly against her skin. “But if it’ll help, I can probably cut down on the smoking when I’m around you. Sounds good?”
He knew that Swan disliked the smoke and that she could probably taste it when he kissed her so, it was a small sacrifice to make. Ren could easily save the cigarettes for his time just hanging out with Genesis or when he was by himself.
Her lips quirked up in a smile. "Then I suppose we're on equal footing," Swan replied. "That sounds like a plan I can deal with."
She smiled as he kissed her neck, taking note that dating someone apparently had its perks. ... Perks that were making her late for class. "Uh, Ren? I need to go..." Taking a step back she smiled apologetically and picked up her bag. "Care to go to Potions?" Shouldering the bag, she tilted her head, indicating that she was going to head down the hall.
And there was the mood kill a la Swan. Ren pulled back to let Swan stand and grab her books and gave a small grin in return. It figures that Swan would still take class seriously which was fine with him. He wasn’t intending on making her sink to his level anyways.
It was really a ridiculous question to ask him. He only had his guitar and his cigarettes in his pocket, he didn’t carry with him any books, rolls of parchments or anything that he needed for said class. But that never stopped him before.
“Trying to turn me into a studious man already, are you?” he said with a small chuckle before grabbing a hold of his guitar case to pull the strap over his shoulders, the guitar resting securely on his back. “If you’re sure that me being there won’t distract you at all, I guess I can join you for class.”
Had she known his thought, Swan would have quite smartly retorted that she knew exactly how to have fun, but that there were some things that needed to be done. And, part of that involved going to Potions. She was fine with being in a relationship, but there were some things that she wouldn't let it get in the way of. Making sure she became an Auror was one of those things.
Swan was pretty well aware of Ren's lax attitude and preparation when it came to class - they had known each other for upward of six years, now. "You can borrow parchment from me if you need to," the blonde offered.
"I wouldn't dream of it," she replied, walking down the corridor. "I thought you might enjoy the chance to tease Professor Howl is all I meant."
