tactics

"... and when your head is down, and they think they've got you, that's when you become tricky, and alter your tactics!"

I applied yesterday to two hostels in Brussels. The position is volunteer, however in exchange for about 3 hours of my time each day working in the kitchen (which is, at any rate, more experience in my chosen field,) I get to sleep there, eat there and do my laundry there for free... in Brussels, where rent is crazy even to live in a shoebox.

So, that seems like a not too shabby deal to me, and a good way to be closer to the centre of things here in Belgium, not to mention the place where English and French fluency is most prized as a working skill. Hopefully someone will want my free labour? *smiles a "really I'm a nice girl...you want me?" kind of smile* sigh.

Naturally this is disturbing to the boyfriend, though we discussed it before, that if I were able to find work elsewhere in the country, that he wouldn't be upset if I went... because well... being 200km away still beats being 6000 miles away. And honestly with a bank account getting smaller because I have to turn my money into food and then eat said food, the idea of someone else footing that bill and my at least not losing any more money is also a good thing, as far as extending my ability to wait for students (who are cheaper to hire in Belgium as their pay is subsidized by the gov't) to go back to school or for a break to come to me in the employment universe.

Now I'm off to put in resumes and register myself with a few more places. Like a fisherman who doesn't give up after days of empty nets. Hmm.
