Sporty reporting in - I've been everything from ecstatic to disappointed to miserable. And I've been a little distracted so I missed a few days. But I'm back! Still a little disappointed, but here I am :)
I have determined that there are a few sports that I just don't want to try. I mean, I love all sports and as a Team Canada fan, I cheer for every one of our athletes no matter what sport they're playing/competing in, no matter how they finish. But I have to admit, I'm not one iota interested in ever trying the sliding sports.
You have to be darn near insane to go sliding down an icy tube at x-million kph. But you gotta be so darn brave, too! And with that, hats off, big cheers and hoo-rahs to our skeleton team.
Yahoo! to Jon Montgomery - way to go and way to thank your hometown! But equal kudos to Jeff Pain and buddy, what happened to Mike Douglas? What an awful way to finish your Olympics. As an athlete, you are responsible for your gear and the rules (I've been dq'd for such before - I was actually studying...) but you have a head coach for the same reason... Just sayin.
Hurray to Amy Williams for Great Britain's first gold in 30 years! And monster hugs to Mellisa Hollingsworth - you didn't let your country down at all! I think you were awesome! Cheers for Michelle Kelly as well :)
Overshadowed by Christine Nesbitt was Kristina Groves going into the women's 1,500m, but she shone - not with gold, but she did grab the silver medal. Cheers to Kristina! Kudos to Ireen Wust for the Gold!
While the Canadian women's hockey team seems to be blasting right along, the Canadian men's hockey team hit a disappointing bump in the road on Super Sunday. All decked out in jersey, scarf and mitts, we were so prepared to cheer on a Canadian win, only to bottom out when we lost 5-3 to the US. Fear not, we are still in the tournament, the road just got a little tougher. Come on Canada, instead of second-guessing our GM and the coaches, cheer harder!
Watched some curling along the way and while I'm nervous because Cheryl Bernard is more cautious than I would be (were I a curler), both she and Kevin Martin did a great job of getting through the round robin at the top of their respective groups.
I'm waiting impatiently for the free skate for ice dance, because - Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir are local! 1st after the 2nd of three components, I am hoping they come out and do their thing!
Adding all kinds of shout outs to the Germans, cos they just seem to keep winning at everything! Right up there behind the US and challenging for the overall medal lead! Cheers to Magdalena Neuner who has now won 2 gold and a silver! And utter boos to those who think she should compete in the team event even though she feels utterly worn out.
Reporter!Smurf signing off - Cheers everyone!
