Sipping the backwash of gods

What is stressing me out right now? I'm just sitting here with no tangible responsibilities, feeling stressed, and I'd like to know why. I thought having a planner would help, and it does. Nonetheless, it's time for the stress-buster that has yet to fail me: a list. Lists reduce boiling knots of so-called problems into the manageable human ( Read more... )

When I needed car insurance, I just filled out these online forms from the websites (like esurance & such)and they sent me quotes. I ended up getting insurance from my parents' provider.

AMUSING/SHALLOW STORY ABOUT WISDOM TEETH TIME! My English professor my first semester at CCSF told us this story. He was trying to teach us something... maybe about the importance of getting more than one source of information? It is vague in my memory because the story was about wisdom teeth. His dentist told him that he needed to get his teeth removed, but then he asked a friend (also a dentist) and another dentist and they said he didn't... so he saved a ton of money and didn't get them removed. If you saw his mouth, you would know this BECAUSE HIS TEETH WERE MESSED UP. They were crammed together and obviously did not all fit in his mouth. All I could think about was how messed up his teeth were.

I also need a job. poo.

I haven't tried esurance cuz I HATE their commercials! hah, take that esurance! Haha I will try to find another site.

That's a funny story. I really wish I didn't care about my teeth being crooked. I don't care about other people's teeth being crooked. I think it's a stupid, Western thing to care about that we only concern ourselves with because we have nothing better to do (we have food, shelter, free speech, aren't fighting for our lives, etc). But nonetheless... I don't want crooked(er) teeth. :(

Damn economy!

Ever the social cynic. ;) Even people who don't necessarily have ready food/shelter have a social sense of aesthetics even if they're different from ours... and it CERTAINLY isn't just a "Western" thing either. The cultures labeled "Eastern" were also into how looking a certain way is better than another.

Besides. I imagine that having extra teeth jam the rest of your teeth together is quite uncomfortable. Regardless of whether they look "good" or not.

I'm aware that all cultures have standards of beauty. But ours has taken beauty & youth to a central and an extreme, because it can afford to. Have you heard about the culture of the Nacirema? Most people might not realize it, but we're very similar to them. https://www.msu.edu/~jdowell/miner.html

I posted a really long rebuttal to this, but it was too long, so I've cut a bunch of foofiness.

People don't realize our similarities to the Nacirema because we are just as similar to them as we are to every other culture on Earth. Anthropology isn't a real science (just like psychology).

The average American can NOT afford to take beauty & use to an extreme as most of the wealth lies in the top 10% of Americans.

Youth & Beauty are shown as signs of health which is a good thing. Aspiring for health should be applauded.

The article was a look at American culture from a hypothetical outsider's perspective. Nacirema is American backwards ( ... )

I'm amused to hear the article is as bogus as I thought. Please tell the impoverished they're obsessed with idealized romance and attractiveness ( ... )

We see things differently, and misunderstand each other. We should probably just stick to talking about kittens.

ooh! I LOVE KITTENS! They are cute and go "mew" and have big ole eyes that shouldn't fit on their faces.
