Advice for new Spock/Uhura writers

There might be some new or returning to the fandom thanks to the new movie and want to write Spock/Uhura. Maybe they haven't seen the TOS or only the new movie and don't know where to start? Maybe they don't think something they wrote would be good enough

A couple of things to avoid, and the first one is a bit silly; Spock is a vegetarian, but that needn't mean he eats salad all the time. There are a lot of vegetarian things he might eat, be imaginative! I think this one stems from reading fanfic as a vegetarian and wondering why Spock's meal choices were so boring. Poor Spock!

When referring to units of measurement, best stick with the metric system. It's the future, I'd say the old systems would be long retired.

If you suck at writing a summary of your work, don't say so or nobody will read it. Spend the time writing a decent summary. A summary is like a tagline on a movie poster. It has an important function, and that is to get people to read your story.

Yes, the vegetarian thing! I'm pescatarian but 90% of what I cook is vegetarian and I can't remember the last time we ate a green salad this winter. Spock needs something filling. :)

A second yes. Don't forget about the grains, fruits, nuts, roots, pods, etc available for eating. Websites specializing in Indian and African dishes are good sources of inspiration.

Agree! Growing lad like that needs to consume more calories. I see him enjoying a big steaming bowl of vegan pho with lots of chillies and bean sprouts.
