The Television n.43~2013 - Aikotoba

During the special event held at the Tokyo Dome on 7th September to celebrate their 10th anniversary, NEWS performed for the first time a memorial song called "Aikotoba~Te wo hiite~". The song was written by the four members, let's hear about the creation process!

K: First of all Tegoshi and Shige created two different songs, right?
S: Correct. At first we had 3 different song samples, we let the members decide without telling who wrote them. In the end it was Tegoshi's one.
T: It's a song that marks our 10th anniversary, everybody preferred something simple. First of all I choose which chords to use, then I started humming melodies listening to them. I also vaguely thought to whom could sing the A or B melody...I composed it trying to make it easy to sing for everybody.
K: Being our special anniversary song we didn't want its key to be too difficult (lol).
T: Yes, I know quite well everybody's voices, I wanted it to be a pleasant song to sing.
M: Then we all wrote the lyrics for the parts Tegoshi chose for us.
S: This time it's not a rap, the melody is short and it was difficult to match words to it~
T: The concept was to write lyrics keeping in mind a specific fan. We wanted to express this: "Thank you for your company in these 10 years, let's be together forever. This is our proposal to you ♥"
M: That's why we thought it was nice to insert many symbols and hidden meanings.
K: Ah! That's how the "Tezutettetotte" came out, right?
M: It actually came straight out of the melody. So I thought that removing the "Te" you have "Zutto" (=Forever)...
S: To be correct, you have "Zutto-h!" (lol)*
M: Right (lol). We had to remove also one little "Tsu". To not let it feel too lonely I decided to insert one on my solo part when I sing "Todoke-h!" Little Tsu you're not alone!
T: That's so Massu-like!
M: Isn't it awesome that there are 4 "Te"? The staff made me notice this though (lol).
K: On the 15th September the footage of the live performance of the song was streamed on our website for 24 hours, it got 690000 hits! I'm so happy!
S: The previous day I was working at the radio, when I finished it was midnight so I watched it with the staff.
T: I'm really glad if the kittens who couldn't come to the live enjoyed it~
K: Please, accept our feelings from now on and forever!

*Removing only the て from てずてってっとって you actually have ずっとっ. The っ doesn't mean anything by himself, but when left at the end of a word it gives a little enphasis, like an exclamation point.

Favorite phrase

Shige : The l ast part by Koyama: "♪Kimi to miru kore kara no mirai wa~". It's simple and very suitable to Koyama. I always want to do tricky things, it made me realize how much the personality shows in lyrics too. Tegoshi's parts are very straight too but still different from Koyama's, his feel more adult.
Tegoshi: The chorus written by Shige using smartly our symbols, it's ground-breaking and surprising. I was like "Amazing!" As expected by him. This time I was very severe with the recording, I also went to the studio in my days-off to give my opinions about the chorus.
Massu: Since we wanted to picture a single person while singing the song, this time we don't say "Minna" (=Everybody) but "Kimi" (=You). It's like a conversation, a lovey-dovey couple song (lol). I love Shige's big chorus, I think all the lyrics are wonderful. We wrote them during the tour, we wrote them with a great motivation.
Koyama: Massu said that the "Tezutettetotte" came straight out of the song and he was confident about it. When we listened to it we thought it was awesome and we kept it. The lyrics that includes symbols and numbers were written by Shige. I realized once again that he can write great lyrics. After all he's a novelist (lol).

Quick and short translation, I really wanted to do this even if the subject is quite old (lol) because it's nice to know how the song was created~
