Today is my mother's birthday. I'm always moody and kind of low on her birthday. I miss her.

The single stupidest thing said all week -- stupider than anything Bush has said, stupider than anything said by any candidate for President, stupider than anything muttered in Tehran, Damascus, Jerusalem, Moscow, London, or Baghdad -- was this: "People keep asking me if we're ready for the Patriots, they should be asking if they're ready for us...We got our swagger back on defense. We're playing great ball, and they're playing great on the offensive side too, so I think we've got a real good chance to win the game. We will win the game...Yeah, I can guarantee a win." - Steelers safety Anthony Smith.

Dude, if you're gonna say something like that, you'd better be able to back it the heck up. Unfortunately for all concerned, Smith's play didn't come close to matching his -- what, bravado? delusions of grandeur? macho stupidity? all three?

I've been saying for weeks that whichever team wins the NFC title and plays in the Super Bowl is gonna get their clocks cleaned by the Patriots.

Disclaimer: I mean that Anthony Smith's guarantee of a win was the stupidest thing said not the most importantly stupid thing. Somewhere, GWB probably thought of seven stupider things that could probably end the world in nuclear (which he'd then pronounce nuke-yuh-ler *sigh*) horror, but that's a whole different level of stupid.
