a_boleyn, thanks for playing along with this and sparky955, I'm sorry I made you cry.

"You are going to love this movie, Gibbs.” Abby appeared carrying large bowls of popcorn.

“Kinda doubt it, Abs,” Tony murmured. “The last movie Gibbs liked was Casablanca.”

“Key Largo,” Tim corrected.

Ducky smiled and took a bowl of popcorn from his hostess. He glanced over at his friend, his brow furrowed in thought. “I do believe it wasCitizen Kane wasn't it?”

“Got it in one, Duck.” Gibbs sipped some of his bourbon and stared at the screen. Why he agreed to be part of this was anyone’s guess. He’d rather be playing strip poker with Tobias and yet here he was.

Abby was so excited. “Then I know you will love this one. It’s the same… avenging love, black outfits and avenging sons.”

“It has it all, divorce, Goth, and murder,” Tony said and was rewarded with a smack to the back of his head. “Thank you, Boss.”

“Now, the start is a little slow, but trust me when you hear, ‘My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die!’ for the first time will be hooked.”

“Never complain, never explain, I believe Julia Childs said that.” Ducky stared at his popcorn as if never having seen it. “I can’t remember the last time I had this.”

“How about the last time you were at a movie?” Tim made room between him and Tony for their hostess to squeeze in.

“That would have been, what, The Mark of Zorro, Duck?”

The ME laughed, but it was a hollow sound to him. Instead, he couldn’t help thinking of his mother, so lost to dementia in the last years of her life and his brother, challenged and often confused. He didn’t want people to know he was starting to have trouble remembering things. He didn’t want to admit it even to himself and, yet as a doctor, it was a very real concern.

“You look a million miles away,” Gibbs’s voice was soft, for his ears only. “You okay?”

“I… I think so, I hope so.”

“Just because you have a family history, it doesn’t always mean that it will happen.”

“How did you… know?”

“I recognize the signs. There are big chunks of my life I don’t remember, either from choice or something else. It doesn’t mean anything other than there are things in my past that need to stay there, quiet and forgotten. Yours, too, I would think.”

“But what if I am losing it? I can barely keep up with technology these days.”

“That’s not you, that’s the times. It’s moving too fast for most of us. The kids are fine with it because they have nothing else to compare it to.

“But what if…?”

“Then that’s what friends are for.” Gibbs pulled him into a rough embrace, “Now, watch the movie and try not to worry.”

It was good advice and Ducky knew that he’d take it, even if for a just a moment, he couldn’t remember Gibb’s first name.
