Saturday broke with sun and some frost. It was nice to escape from the fog and we celebrated by heading over to Buffalo Chips for breakfast. They have some of the best breakfasts, even if their service is a little well flamboyant at times. TBG had a Savory Omelet (made with cheese, sausage and herbs) and I had a regular eggs and bacon breakfast. One thing that is great is they have sour cream cornbread that they panfry. Mmmm, so good.
After that, it was still too early for the shops, so we drove around a bit and ended up back at the hotel. We read and lazed around until ten, then we headed down town.
Thankfully, the ‘skunk’ shop was fine (guess they had a visitor the night before who got *um* startled. I recommended Nature’s Remedy to help with the smell. That’s what I use). Found lots of fun stuff and then headed back to the craft fair. TBG was checking out the freshly made cakes, cookies, and scones. He proclaimed them all very yummy.
By now it was starting to get close to lunch, so we headed to the Pokerville Market and picked up a couple of sandwiches along with some Sobon that was on sale. Afterwards, we drove up to Sobon to pick up my case of wine and some port. There was only one other couple there, much quieter than in town.
Rombauer was closed, but that’s wasn’t an issue for us, we headed over to the Amador county Florist and Nursery. The place must be incredible in the summer. There were some flowers blooming, but not many. They had a nice gift shop and a nice picnic area. We had lunch there and then drove around for a while until it got too foggy to do that safely.
It was back to the hotel again for a bit of a nap and some catch up time on the computer. It’s funny that the more I see cable TV, the less I miss it. I’m quite happy with our off-air channels.
Finally six rolled around and it was time to head over to Amador City for dinner and we walked out into a fog bank. It’s only two miles to Amador City, but it seemed like forever until we got there - then there was no parking. They were having a huge event of some sort. TBG ended up parking nearly a mile away from the restaurant!
He happily dropped me off and I went in and got our table. The restaurant was busy and that was nice to see. We had a great table and Stella was our server. We’ve had her many times before, so it was nice to catch up. We both decided on their rack of lamb, which was a great choice. So very good. TBG had a chicken lentil soup and I had a pomegranate and persimmon salad. He followed with a warm ginger cake with pear ice cream - so very yummy. Talk about sweet dreams!
It was back to the hotel to read and then a nice, non-cat evening.
Day 3
Aside from the fog choking everything and my computer mouse not working, it was a good start to the day. All TBG had to do was touch the mouse to make it work. Sigh…
For some reason, he didn’t want to have breakfast at the Old Well this morning. Ed’s caustic humor can be biting at times. That considered, we headed back to Buffalo Chips. TBG had the same thing and I had some pancakes. We were on the road by nine and back home by 9:50. The fog evaporated to high clouds as we started down the hill, so the drive was easy. We hit town and decided to give the weekly shopping a go even without the shopping list. We only missed four items. That’s pretty good for us.
By 11, we were home, unloaded, unpacked and cat-towing to the pusses. Titan was especially annoyed that we left. He still hasn’t let me out of his sight! The break was lovely and I really enjoyed our time up there.
Now, onto Christmas!
