Release 88, aka LJ screwed up again and they are not sorry

Dec 23, 2011 19:24

As I assume you all know, LJ decided to jump on the bandwagon and revamp the site. Changing the commenting system and taking away the subject lines is just the beginning. To me, this did not pose a problem initially. Even though so many people went on screaming against the new comment page, I personally was okay with it, I liked the icon view, didn't miss the subject line and would've gotten used to the new look in time. And then LJ said, let there be fail. And then some more of it.

OF IMMEDIATE CONCERN: All paid users should check their account status, people are reporting that automatic payments have been turned on for them without their consent. ( c)

The attitude LJ is showing is completely unacceptable. And that is why they are losing me too. I don't have a problem with the new comment page, but I do have a problem with LJ pissing on us just because they can. Or because they indeed don't want us around.

Whatever the reason, I would like to urge everybody to take some sort of action. Here is a good summary of what you can do. Please consider what your inaction is supporting - LJ and its unforgivably offensive and unprofessional treatment of its user base. Personally, I would say get them where it hurts the most, aka by their wallet. Maintaining free accounts with Adblock sounds like a reasonable step. Spreading the word is also crucial to let people know what they are dealing with.

And always, always remember the words of Martin Niemöller.

As to me, I have backed up my journal on Dreamwidth (right now you can sign up to Dreamwidth without an invite code and I still have one up for grabs from earlier), which is now my default journal. My paid account expires in February - and I'm not renewing. This company is not seeing a damn cent from me anymore. I shall remain active over here though as long as you are, so no worries.
