Release 88, aka LJ screwed up again and they are not sorry

Dec 23, 2011 19:24

As I assume you all know, LJ decided to jump on the bandwagon and revamp the site. Changing the commenting system and taking away the subject lines is just the beginning. To me, this did not pose a problem initially. Even though so many people went on screaming against the new comment page, I personally was okay with it, I liked the icon view, didn ( Read more... )

I'm on Dreamwidth but I don't use it. They have even less people on then LJ. Though if LJ continues with their shenaneigans, they'll be a whole lot more people on Dreamwidth. Including myself.

I'm really hoping that once it becomes an option to move communities the scales will tip.

I made an account on Dreamwidth. It seems so lonely over there.

Got the v-gift. Thank you. And Happy Holidays to you too. :) *hugs*

Hope you had a nice one. :)

And I agree myself. But I really don't trust LJ anymore, especially not with my personal stuff.

Aww, thanks. Granted, then I sold my soul to norsekink and realised why we cannot live without subject lines. LOL

Lmao, right? I run a few fandom comms and have a friend who runs a kink meme, as well as knowing about (but not participating in) LJRP comms, so subject lines were... a big deal for fandom. And it fucked up two bangs that I run (where I'd organize specific question types into premade threads with subject lines to differentiate). At least I could edit those to use h1 tags to make sure they were clearly labeled, but ugh.

And then -- and I'm not sure if you're aware of this -- randomly, and for seemingly no reason at all, LJ disabled the use of div style tags (where you can use CSS to format in HTML), but did not disable _____ style tags on anything else, really. So, to put it into an example-type context: I cannot div style a whole post with a width, font color, background color, etc., but I can do it to a textarea box in a post.

Yeah, I could totally see why other people were upset. All of a sudden entire comms crashed to the ground and for a while there was no way of saying if they would be able to come back up because nobody knew what LJ was doing (not even LJ) and so there was a chance that things could go to hell permanently.

Since all my HTML and CSS is self-taught over fiddling with customisation, I must ask what does that mean from, you know, ordinary user perspective. Cause it sure as hell sounds idiotic. After all, it's a formatting tool, why would you take it away from your users?
