A Heart In The Night
When the evening tempts the day away
With beguiling colors that decline to stay
A wisp of a promise on a silent breeze
Perhaps tomorrow my pain will ease.
A heart in the night calls to me.
When dark forms and shadows assault my eyes
Bones of trees silhouetted against gray skies
I turn from imagined phantoms and ghouls
Seek a covert realm with kinder rules.
A heart in the night calls to me.
When blackness comes to steal my soul
Ancient demons fight to take control
Words sent to save a world weary spirit
Come reaching through the fog and mist.
A heart in the night calls to me.
When I look back on darkened times
Cold and shivers travel down my spine
At last I see the healing light of morn
I thank the stars that you were born,
With a heart in the night that calls to me.
