How has it been 20 years?!?!
It's been 20 years since Fellowship of the Ring, 5 years longer than I'd even been alive when it was first released in theaters. And yet? There is a part of me that feels like I was only JUST a 15-year-old kid watching it in the movie theater for the first time. I was less enthused than I was for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, having been a Potterhead since 7th grade (unfortunately, considering the author is a TERF)- but then I ended up falling completely in love.
Here is me and one of my dearest friends in 2001, the year Fellowship of the Ring came out. If I'm not very much mistaken, this was taken the first day of ninth grade. Only a few days before 9/11... we were 14, since my birthday is September 13 (yep, turned 15 two days after 9/11) and hers is November 9, but that's besides the point. She also enjoyed FotR, and we watched it together at her house on DVD on multiple occasions, as well as making fun of the animated version of the movie.
