Of D&D and racewalking and such

Firstly, I have discovered an LJ app... that means I can post on a whim from the N24 bus, rather like I'm doing now! So my chest cold is totally gone... been taking it easy on the mileage the past couple of days because my legs aren't used to distance.  I did 4 two days ago and 5 yesterday. If the combination of the snow we're supposedly getting from Winter Storm Freyr and a paranoid mother who thinks I'm going to be somehow killed whether by a rapist, someone shoving me on the tracks, or being pancaked by a car while running doesn't stop me, I'm doing 6-7 tonight after I'm back from work. I need to get more wine too because I finished the blackberry last night.

Other than that... can't wait for New Years! Me and my boyfriend are going to  a party at the home of one of his fellow Anons in Brooklyn. Good times.

And what was that really weird noise the N24 just made? Oh NICEbus you are a strange, strange creature.

Anyhoo. Brit was over yesterday. We ate my mom's M&M cookies and played D&D (I need to find all the entries I have from her campaign... this is sort of a prequel to one she had a few years ago).  Kiran Mani, her paladin, had a very rough shift at work as a member of the Duke's watch, more so because it was a holiday weekend for Northchester, Cancalia (it's the Duke's birthday weekend, and given both his rank in the city and his being the brother of the King down in Southchester, Cancalia, it's kind of a big deal). He had among other things: arson, shoplifting, people carrying illegal weapons, kids shooting off illegal firecrackers, reckless cart drivers and horseback riders, a swordfight in a tavern, someone throwing caltrops on the main road of the city so that there ended up being  a cart pileup from horses stepping on the caltrops, and this crazed half-orc woman who he found out is very good with a bow and arrow to his cost... let's just say that he had to practically be carried by one of his fellow guards to his Pelor cleric half-elf, half-halfling friend Nont'im in a tavern... lucky for him that a few of the halfling refugee kids saw him go in and thought to tell Kiran because he was near 0 hit points!

After Nont'im managed to restore him to almost full health by using all his cure critical wounds spells for the day, the two had to get ready for the Duke's feast at Kiran's house. Kiran was dressed in white, so of course he had to change, being covered in blood, and his Heironeous holy symbol was all sinister looking with blood on the lightning bolt... that needed cleaning! As for Nont'im, he had spilled alcohol on himself from pregaming at the tavern... so fortunate that he and Kiran are such good friends that they have clothes at each other's houses! (They also have a couple of stray outfits at the Duke's... the Duke's oldest son Hector is 30 like Kiran almost is so they've known each other since they were small children, and then Nont'im came into Kiran's life when Kiran was 15).

After they got changed, Nont'im told Kiran how the 2 girls he invited as guests would be meeting them at the Duke's, and they went to check on Folco and to see if he was ready or needed help getting ready in his injured state. (Folco Foxtrot is another halfling refugee... and the youngest of the King of Dremeadow's five children at age 19.  Yes, I did get the first name from Folco Boffin) They found Folco asleep at the desk (think a desk the size an elementary schooler gets) the Duke lent him surrounded by papers. After they woke him (and were treated to him sleepily gibbering about how boring the homework the hobbit acting as the teacher of the refugee  kids was),  they reminded him about the feast. Folco had nearly forgotten it, and he embarassedly said he could hardly show up with his current state (bad enough that he has his right arm in a sling and his left leg in a brace from injuries inflicted when he was a prisoner of the villain Jarmir Esteel and his people) and indicated his clothes, which were definitely worse for the wear... they might have been clothes for a halfling prince, but  they were torn or worn thin all over, faded and dirty. Nont'im ended up lending one of his better outfits (tucking it into Folco's boots so he wouldn't trip over the pants and cuffing the sleeve so he could use his left hand)

Then they went to the feast, which had a jester named Comedian Zeke, a gnome. I typed all the jokes I used, some which I invented and some which were taken off D&D messageboards. I'll post them when I get my laptop to wifi. Meanwhile, finishing this entry!

So Brit and I left off at this because she had to go to work, but next time we go into the murders at Bolingbarke University and the Magic School plus the nasty rivalry between the two universities in Bolingbarke, Cancalia! :D

On a different note, I want to see the Hobbit a third time!
