Best New Year's Ever

This was by far the best New Year's ever!

Matt and I stayed at the Amway Grand Hotel in Grand Rapids. It's this fancy schmanzy 4 star hotel with all the amenities you could ever dream of, and if you paid for the room, you got access to all the parties that were going on in the hotel. Although, I'm not sure how they determined if you were a hotel guest or not, because there was really no one there checking ID's or anything.

Matt picked me up at 2:00pm (he was exactly on time!!) on Sunday and we headed towards Grand Rapids. Our original plans were scrapped when we had to make a pitt stop at the mall in Grandville because Matthew did not have a bag or suitcase for his personal belongings. I'm sorry, but there was no way I was allowing him to walk into a 4 star hotel carrying his clothes in a Meijer bag. I didn't even bring my pillows from home! How tacky is that ;)? So I made him stop at the mall to buy a bag.

I also ran into Victoria Secret on a mission to find the matching panties to the bra I bought on Saturday. By the way girls, I totally reccommend the Secret Embrace. It's totally worth the money! Most comfortable thing ever! They're also very convenient as they are convertible to halter or racer back. I also got this sexy little satin kimono which I absolutely adore, as does Matthew! While we were in Victoria Secret, I ran into an old highschool friend, Brooklynn. I haven't seen her in 3 years! I was very excited to see her. We cheered together my senior year of highschool and it was so good to see her again.

So, once we finally got out of the mall it was like 4:00pm, an hour behind schedule. We headed downtown for the hotel. It was bustling, as usual, but the valets are fairly efficient and before I knew it, our car had been whisked away and we were headed upstairs to enjoy an evening alone, just the two of us, nobody around. See the excitement I felt? haha We stayed on the 11th floor of the old tower, which I had never stayed in before. It was a very nice, fairly basic room. There was a full size bed, desk, TV, night stand, all the basics. The pillows in the bed were totally divine! I'm going to have to figure out a way to order a couple from the place. Yeah, I checked the tag haha.

Our original plan was to go to Red Lobster for dinner, but once we got settled into the hotel, we decided it would be too much trouble to get the car back and find our way around town in the dark. So, we talked to the concierge and ended up eating at once of the hotel resteraunts that wasn't totally booked for the evening. It's called Benthem's and it's absolutely delicious. I got this really sexy brown sparkly shirt to wear for the evening, but I soon found out that it was waaaaaaaaay under dressed. I wore it to dinner with my jeans and some heels. I had the best prime rib ever! It was cooked perfectly, tender and juicy, and hardly any fat at all. Yumm-o! And I also discovered I like asparagus. It tastes a lot like cooked broccoli. Desert was chocolate mousse with all sorts of sauces on it. Totally reccommend it if you're ever in downtown GR.

After dinner we went back upstairs to change into our party clothes. Everyone was veeeeeeeeeeery dressed up for this. I was very happy I decided to bring my sparkly black dress along. My intuition paid off once again. We ended up taking a little nap so we could make it until midnight, haha, yeah we're getting old. I got all prettified and Matt got all handsome.  It took some work on my part because I wasn't really planning on going formal. I had nothing to do my hair with except a curling iron and a crapload of bobby pins, so it was entertaining. Matt wore the new tie I bought him that I absolutely love! He looked so handsome, my big strong sexy man!  We headed downstairs to check out the parties.

We found out that all the super drunk people were at the sports bar, so we stayed away from there. There Gerald R. Ford Ballroom was very nice, but the music was wild and there were a lot of families with young children, so we didn't spend much time in there either.  We wandered into the lobby where a jazz trio was playing. We found a couple seats in the little indoor "courtyard" and listened to the music. It was very nice and laid back. We got a few drinks from the bar (expensive!!) and chatted for a couple hours. I love just sitting and talking to him. I learn something new about him everyday. For example, he doesn't like martinis lol. Poor baby ordered a Greygoose martini, and every sip he took turned his face red and his eyes watered, thought he was going to die!

We headed back upstairs about 11:45pm to put the champagne on ice and watch the ball drop in the privacy of our own room. Yeah, we missed out on the balloon drop in the ballroom, but this was much nicer. We shared our first kiss of the New Year and toasted to our good fortunes to come. We spent some quality time together over the next couple hours. I miss being alone with him.

I was sad when morning came because I didn't want this to end. I wanted to stay there with him forever. It's times like these that make me love him even more. When it's just the two of us and he's so sweet and gentlemenly. We ate breakfast at another hotel resteraunt and checked out at noon. I had so much fun and I wish it didn't have to end. Hopefully our wonderful evening is just the first of many wonderful things to come in 2007.

Happy New Year, everyone!

I love you, baby. Thank you for a magical night.
