On the way to school this morning, Cory and I heard the most amazing radio show. We listen to Fisher and Boy on 97X. They just so happened to be interviewing people who refused to vote for Barack Obama because he is Muslim. I, naturally, became infuriated because Obama is not Muslim.
The first man claimed that he would not vote for Senator Obama because he thinks an American should be the president, not some Muslim guy. If my mind serves me correctly, and it does, being born in America is a prerequisite to becoming the president. Fortunately for everyone else in America, this particular man admits that chooses not to exercise his right to vote.
The second person also refuses to vote for Obama because of his faith. She also will not vote for Obama because she “heard it from a friend who, heard it from a friend who heard it from another that” he turned his back on the American flag (that was for you, Kim!). Furthermore, she argued that this country was founded on Christianity (interesting) and we should not reject our Christian values by electing a Muslim. Silly me, I thought this country was founded on certain inalienable rights, one of which is the freedom of religion. That means that America does not have an established religion and was founded more on the absence of religion in politics. God, I hope this woman doesn’t vote.
The third person is my favorite. She claims that she will not vote for Obama, not only because he is Muslim, but also because his middle name is Hussein and that is too close to Saddam Hussein. Another argument was that Obama is too close to Osama. Therefore, he must be a terrorist. Wow. Just wow. What do you say to that?
After all these wonderful phone calls were concluded, Fisher and Boy broke the news that Barack Obama is a Christian and that he has noted this several times. It is sad to say that 10% of democrats believe that Obama is a Muslim. A slightly larger number of republicans believe he is Muslim. Interestingly, only about 3% of independents think that Obama is Muslim. God bless America.
