It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood

I was surprised and delighted this morning when I walked out my front door to find an absolutely beautiful day. The temperature was cool - almost too cool. If a breeze had been blowing I'd have considered getting my sweater. The sky, however, was perfect; deep blue and cloudless - so different from the gray, heavy skies pregnant with rain and thunder and lightening we've had for the past three days. My neighborhood was completely silent, as if in awe of the day's beauty. As I drove by the local middle school, the silence was especially brought home. No bands of children wending their way down sidewalks and skipping across streets laden with book bags and backpacks and musical instruments. No lines of SUVs and minivans and school buses dropping off young scholars. No crossing guards to impede my progress or flashing yellow lights warning me to drive slowly. I thought the school looked rather lonely.

I have piles of work to do today, and so I'd best be at it. Hope everyone has a good Thursday.
