I want to go back
to a world where I can live
without an alarm clock,
a cell phone,
a mirror.
Where I can watch the sunset
over the desert and
lean back to find
each little star poke out
at the time it sees fit.
Where pace is set
only by choice
and the few ties "back home"
that insist you keep up with them.
Who urge you to buy a clock.
Who agree that life without one
is better,
but keep themselves shackled
to their wristwatches.
I just want to sigh,
like relief,
like a true connection with the
salty, dry, hot air.
I want to go back
where nothing really gets done,
not quickly anyway,
but what's the rush?
................
My mom bought a wristwatch in Baja
and I laugh at the irony.
................
I'm moving back in November,
if only for a week or two.
