I started wearing glasses when I was four. Yep, FOUR.
And I had pretty shocking vision from day one. I get to blame my dad for this, his vision is pretty much exactly the same as mine-- the whole -10 with astigmatism same. This meant that my glasses always tended to be much more expensive than most glasses. (my last pair I bought about 5 years ago, was getting up close to a thousand dollars)
Anyway, shortly after I started wearing glasses there were a million advertisements for the latest in glasses technology:
Scratch-proof glasses
I remember seeing the adverts. People *accidentally* dropping their glasses then scratching them on the cement, scratching them against walls, even scratching them with pins and *voila!* no scratches! Anything you dished out at them had absolutely no effect.
I remember getting a
bobby pin, chewing off the plastic protective coating on the end and ummm.. testing my glasses. I had to see this for myself.
My parents weren't as impressed though. hehe
