until I have time to write a proper post

Okay, so I don't care whether this has any repurcussions on my geek cred: I fucking loved that SO HARD! I went in with deliberately low expectations (the advert for it was really kind of pants and out-of-context, even if the Leonard Nimoy moment at the end was awesome) and goddamn, I am seriously blown away with glee. I wanted to do clappy-hands, like, all the time. :D

Top things:
- Uhura at the bar being awesome
- the fact I never once thought of Zachary Quinto eating anyone's brain (seriously, how good do you have to be to play SPOCK in a movie WITH LEONARD NIMOY IN IT? Very, is how good, and he was great.)
- Simon Pegg, whose accent was actually not bad at all and really DIDN'T play Scotty just as, well, Simon Pegg, which I was a bit expecting. He also didn't actually flail and die of fanboy glee right there on the screen, which is impressive!
- The fact the plot actually made sense, and meant there was a good reason why it wasn't exactly like canon and why Leonard Nimoy should be onscreen and talk to his younger self without it being entirely ridiculous! Bad pseudoscience is the biggest reason for me giving up on sci-fi; actually pretty good pseudoscience that works for rather than against the emotional plot makes me happy.
- The shots in space - it's easy for space battles to look rubbish, but they didn't, and the music was okay
- BONES. How PERFECT was that? I actually did clap at "Dammit, Jim, I'm a doctor, not a physicist!", because seriously, that could have been original Bones there, and it was AWESOME.
- SULU SWORD FIGHTING FOR GREAT JUSTICE, and CHEKOV, and did I mention Uhura being awesome and basically everything ever?

Things I was less enthused about include the Spock/Uhura thing (it wasn't awful, just... surprising) and the Vulcan bullyng (which was funny but in retrospect probably shouldn't have been). But that doesn't count much, really. YAY GOOD TREK MOVIE.
