[Have Azusa looking perfectly groomed and dressed and as unruffled as if she was never involved in that high-speed chase over the skies of Death City and yonder. Actually she hasn't been getting enough sleep, either, but it won't be obvious behind her thick glasses.]

[He makes a low sound of agreement--all of this is well said, and it's good to point it out to those who might not know or have forgotten. Sid approves, but that certainly shouldn't come as a surprise to her.]

It would be better for us to work in pairs while there are things happening that we have yet to explain! I will come to search with you. We can make use of both our skills.

[nodding]

Yes, I was hoping to ask for your assistance. Sid, you would be more familiar with the underground areas of the city, correct? Especially the tunnels under Shibusen.

[A nod and a sound of assent.]

Certainly! Some areas in particular.

I propose we start in the waterways. I have been told that in his own world one of the disappeared, Yuuri Shibuya, had abilities to travel through dimensions using water. If the return of his ability during the Madness Wave was related-- [He's sure she can surmise the rest of the thought, so he leaves it unspoken. Given the desert climate, there are relatively few places that might lead them to check anyway.]

... He might have turned up at the waterways. [Or any body of water between here and the other side of the world.] From where, though? [The toilet in the room he disappeared from?]

All right, we'll start with the waterways.

You say that we can learn how to fight the effects of the madness wave. How have Shibusen's technicians learned how to fight it? By repeated exposure to the madness wavelength? If so, is there a way to reproduce its effects inside a controlled environment? We need to know how we can defend ourselves against such a powerful attack, after all, and training would be advisable.

Those were my thoughts exactly, Near. I was going to ask the same thing myself.

[Still shaking her heeead.]

Repeated exposure won't work, no. It would be like plunging an open wound into bacteria-infested water.

I see. So it is not going to work then. It was merely an idea, but one I had assumed Shibusen would have considered earlier, I suppose. We will just have to make to with the methods we do have to work with to do what we can then, right?

Is is possible to replicate it so that it can be included during training?

[WHY WOULD YOU EVEN SUGGEST THAT]

[Video] snipingyourfail August 25 2010, 07:51:54 UTC
It's not. There have been attempts to replicate the effects in the past, but they all ended in disaster for various reasons, all of which have to do with the fact that it is impossible to control. Please do not think of including the madness wavelength itself in your training regimen, because it won't work.

Then how are we supposed to build immunity to it?

Um, if you need help fixing....Ms Azusa...?

There are areas all over the city which were damaged the other day. Do you have any place in particular that you would like to help fix?

Um, wherever is worst? I don't mind, as long as I can help?

[Which she will, when not tripping up anyway?]

[Hm.]

I wouldn't suggest heavy construction work to you, though. [Such a delicate-looking girl.] Are there tasks that you might be good at? Painting? Gardening?

[Aah. The accidental arsonist.]

You're welcome. If you are in need of counseling or suggestions on learning how to fight against the madness wavelength, please feel free to consult any of the professors.

Understood.

[Pause.]

Will there be classes on the subject in the future?

Yes. We are working to update our syllabus and restructure it to be friendlier to the recruits, and dealing with the madness wave will be one of the major topics.
