Cooling Tempers

Mar 03, 2009 17:13

WHO: Dorothy Catalonia and Zechs Marquise
TONE: Tense
WHEN: March 3rd, just after log between Dorothy and Treize
WHERE: Arithmancy Office
WHAT: Dorothy goes to talk to Zechs as she promised.
STATUS: Complete

Dorothy left Treize's office, for once having had the last word. Now she had to deal with Zechs..she figured she might as well get it over with. Walking to the Arithmancy office, she knocked on the door.

"Enter." Zechs called after a moment. If that was Light, he'd send his assistant off to do something. He needed to be alone for now. He felt horrible about the way he had been treating his cousin. He had acted more on emotion than anything else.

Dorothy opened the door, stepped in, and closed it behind her. This was definitely a meeting that would have to be behind closed doors, simply because of the tempers involved. She looked at the man who might as well be her cousin, hesitating before moving further into the office.

He looked up. Without a word he lifted his wand and made a motion, he then set it down. "The room is sound proofed for now."

She nodded, feeling the spell work as she stopped in front of the desk. "Treize wished me to speak with you," she offered in explanation for why she was there.

"Sit." He said, putting some papers away. The young professor sighed and then really looked at Dorothy. "He expressed his desire for me to speak with you also."

Dorothy knew her expression was rather flat when she looked back at him, sitting down as instructed. "Did he say why?"

"We did not get that far in our conversation. But, I believe that Treize does not wish for this friction to continue between us any longer."

She glanced away, nodding slightly. "I get that impression as well."

"Dorothy..."

Dorothy looked back at him and raised a brow in question.

He didn't say anything.

She frowned. "What is it?"

"It's nothing."

Dorothy sighed. "I doubt that."

He watched Dorothy, wondering the best way how to phrase what he wanted to say to her.

She waited for him to speak, hoping he would so she wouldn't have to.

Zechs didn't say anything.

Dorothy kept herself from frowning again, though her slight irritation was probably showing through her pale eyes. "You wanted to say something."

"People will notice if this tension between us keeps up."

She nodded, that was what Treize had told her as well. "What do you want to do about that?"

"I'm not sure."

Dorothy refrained from sighing as she looked away again.

"Dorothy... You're released from your Oath."

Her eyes snapped to fix on him, obvious shock showing as she drew in a breath. "..Why?" He'd been so insistent on her giving it. Why retract it?

"It was a hasty act on my part. I should have trusted your word. Treize does."

Dorothy studied her cousin before nodding slightly. "Thank you."

"You're welcome."

She offered a quiet smile.

He smiled back.

"Is there anything you want to ask me?"

"Are you alright?"

Dorothy blinked, feeling herself a bit off balance again. "I'm fine, thank you..How about you?"

"I'm... I'm worried about Relena."

"She was fine, last I saw her..What about her worries you?"

He shook his head a bit. "My own association with her. She does not know I'm her brother."

Dorothy nodded thoughtfully. "Whose wish is that?"

"Our parents."

She sighed. "I see."

"They weren't happy that I wanted to be an auoror. That's why I became Zechs Marquise."

Dorothy tilted her head, studying Zechs for a moment. "What did they wish for you?"

"Go into the ministry, be a politician..."

"They couldn't understand the ministry, and politics, isn't for everyone?" She frowned slightly. Even she accepted that.

"Dorothy, my family are pacifists, of have you forgotten?"

Dorothy rolled her eyes at him. "No, I've not forgotten. There are other things you could have gone into to keep to your parents' beliefs, without going into the ministry."

"I wanted to be an Auoror..." He shrugged a bit, "Now look at me. A professor."

She nodded. "Have you spoken with your parents lately?"

"No."

"Why not?"

"I just... I haven't for three years."

Dorothy raised a brow at him, "you could always send them a letter now."

He didn't say anything.

She shook her head slightly at him. She knew she could easily needle him, but that wouldn't help the tension between them. So she remained silent.

Zechs picked up his wand and reversed the spell on his office. "You can go."

Dorothy sighed quietly and stood up. Walking to the door, she left without another word.

zechs, dorothy
