Beautiful Things

Feb 18, 2010 17:26

My friend Marcus is married to my very good friend Jessie. Jessie has a beautiful, beautiful little girl, my goddaughter, Cassandra (Cassy). On April 20, Cassy will be one.
Jessie got pregnant again and ended up with twin boys. She was supposed to be due April 5, but she went into labor last night 6 WEEKS EARLY.
Marcus called my at 8:10 and yelled at me to get my ass to the hospital. I had JUST walked in the door. I had JUST left the hospital, where Jim was. My feet hurt, I was still crying from talking to Jim, and nothing seemed important.
But I got my ass to the hospital in 5 minutes.

I was Jessie's coach again. I helped her. I did whatever I could. And at 9:15, she had Marcus Andrew Jr. (We've decided his nickname will be Junior.) 5 minutes later, after a brief period of rest and then another marathon of pain, Jessie had Jeremy Remington. (We'll call him J.R.)

They were beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. Junior came into the world silent, with his eyes open, whereas his little twin brother came in screaming, his eyes shut. Identical twins, already showing opposite personalities...
It's so amazing.

Seeing the boys with their mother in that hospital bed made me cry again. But those were tears of joy.
I haven't seen anything that uplifting and inspiring in a long, long time. It was refreshing. It reminded me of the joys of life.

I called Jim when I got home and told him we were godparents again. He laughed with me and said that Jessie and Marcus deserved beautiful children. I agreed. Those two have enough love to give. :)

So last night was full of ups and downs. Jim's cancer has gotten worse, much worse, but two beautiful boys were born into this world.
And I'm a godmother to three children now, instead of one.
I hope to be an involved one, too.
