Beth Brannon Level 03
Drama!

What is one thing impossible to escape? It is all over every school. It is all over the world. In fact the world pretty much runs on it when you think about it. There are many different types, levels, stages of this. It’s called drama. It is an emotion. Sometimes you want to get away from it, sometimes you want to be in on it. Either way everyone possesses a type of drama. Drama is in the government, it is in country battles. It is a part of war. It is just in everyday life. You would think that when you get older you will have no drama...nope, sorry. It is never going to go away. But it is not always a bad thing. Maybe as the years go on the amount of petty immature drama will decrease, but it will be substituted by other more important problems. In high school everyone is overdramatic. Everything is a big deal. Believe it or not this emotion keeps the world going, it keeps us alive.
Without Drama in our lives we wouldn’t have a source of entertainment. There would be no comedy; there would be no “reality TV shows”. The entire theatrical scene would be gone. Drama is a freedom of expression. Acting is being someone you’re not. To teach a drama class you must have to know a lot about writers, poets, theatre, movies, entertainment. There are so many different ways to express drama. All of them are just ways to express who you are.
When something is very serious you sometimes use little expression. It can make something seem very dramatic or not dramatic at all. You use a lot of expression when you are happy, or excited. People will be dramatic and some will be loud. Others use hand gestures.
Everyone is different about the way they express themselves, if it is by speaking or writing poems, or if you make movies, and many more.
I learned a lot in Drama class this year. We learned about the beginning of plays and theatres. A lot about Shakespeare. He was a brilliant man, who wrote many great poems and produced a lot of famous plays. I never really thought too hard about the word Drama or more importantly the meaning of it. There is a whole class about it, must be pretty important right? Yes. It is. There is even the school Drama club where they all work on getting together the school play. It is actually pretty neat.
The last project we did in my drama class was to make a movie. I had a lot of fun with this project. I re-did “Edward Scissorhands”. The stars were Jack Nicholson and Ellen Degeneres. It was fun being able to choose anyone to be in my movie. Though, if this was real and I was a real producer, organizer, and director, it would defiantly be extremely stressful and dramatic. Never mind the amount of money it would take to pay the actors and supply everything else. There are so many little things that we don’t even think about that would have to be paid for. I personally don’t think I could take the role. Some people fit the part perfectly…my drama teacher Ms.Decurtis for example. She has been working with this stuff for her whole life; she has always loved the theatre and Shakespeare. It seems fun, I just couldn’t do it. So thanks to Drama, and its meaning. Thanks for helping me notice how much we use this emotion in everyday life. It keeps us going. And thanks to Ms.Decurtis for teaching a drama class and being the leader of the drama club, so many students love it. I recommend it to anyone.
