My First Adult Job And Not In A Sex Way

Dec 13, 2006 21:18

It's awesome!! It's so different to Magnamail, or any other job I've had for that matter. It's weird adjusting to a place where no one cares if you arrive an hour late, and your boss doesn't keep an eye on you to make sure you're always working. My manager actually wanted me to take a 2nd morning break so I could socialise with other staff. It felt... nice :)

Having said that, there's heaps of work to do. There's a huge backlog of letters to be prepared and mailed out which takes up most of my day, and on top of that I have little odd jobs, meetings to attend, minutes to type up and annoying 'Privacy Act' lessons to go through. I've been getting 5-6 hrs sleep a night since I started the job, partly coz I lie awake at night thinking about work, and partly coz I have to wake up at ridiculous hours to get ridiculously dressed at my usual ridiculous pace. So I'm pretty much running on caffeine atm.

But lucky for me we have a coffee machine that froths the milk for us! So my morning pretty much goes like this: Wake up... [blur]... Press "double shot" button... Wait... Press "cappuccino" button... Wait... Drink... Wake up (did I say that twice?).

A desk near my desk   -   Kitchen with that sexy caffeine machine   -   View from the lunchroom

So my official job title is Health Resource Coordinator which has made me realise just how lame the word "coordinator" is. At McKesson, HRC = admin assistant. But hey ^_^

I didn't realise how much I would enjoy admin work till now. It's almost like playing a pretend game - me, a disorganised person, pretending to be organised. I waste a lot of time just organising things for fun. Because I can. And I'm the only admin person for the Disease Management Sydney division so I can pretty much do whatever the hell I like. (Except Cawer has rightly pointed out to me that my over-organising is just wasting paper.)

It's funny though, how I've gone from one job where I talk to old ladies all day... to another job where I'll be talking to old ladies for a lot of the day. From January I have to start doing phone enrolments, and since our customer base is diseased ppl, I assume that means 55+ yo. At least I've had some practice :(

Ooh almost forgot - the tenancy agreement has been signed, which means I'm definitely moving to Marsfield in January, and that woman who gave birth to me definitely can't change her mind now (which she almost did a few days ago). It'll be like a really really really good bday present. HURRAY!!! I've started reading decor magazines at work haha... when in reality we all know that I'll be sleeping and eating on the floor for a while until I can afford real furniture. But like, hey! ^_^

Anyway I have to go shower now and be in bed by 10.30 like the good little girl I am. So take care everyone, talk to you soon :) xxxoooxxx *blows kisses*
