At 9:30 pm last night I saw the first episode of Are you smarter than a 5th grader?. This is a new game show on FOX hosted by Jeff Foxworthy, of all people. *snicker* So, the show has a very interesting premise with some fun twists, but it feels and acts like Who Wants to be a Millionaire. If you thought Street Smarts made people look stupid, Are you smarter does a pretty good job. Actual 5th graders are part of the show to be lifelines erm I mean cheats for the contestants. So in addition to the contestants being humiliated in front of a large TV audience, they are being humiliated by children. XD
The things I really dislike about Millionaire, American Idol, etc is all the forced suspense and drama. They dim the lights except for the light on the contestant. They play that "heartbeat" music/ambient sound. The host delays, or asks are you sure type questions. ARGH!! Just answer the damn question/show the results! Now I'm fine when a contestant takes some time to think about a question, but there is a difference between thinking and making the time between the question and reveal of the answer excruciatingly long.
Either way, give Are You Smarter and viewing. It will be on FOX at 9:30pm Eastern tonight and tomorrow if I recall correctly. It's a special 3 night premiere of the show.
