advertising does work, if done right
This morning I popped onto Gaia for the Daily Chance. I noticed there was an announcement. Gaia had been approached by a big movie studio to advertise a new film. So Gaia will be putting some things about the film around the site as well as having a quest and special items related to the movie. I have no problems with Gaia advertising films so long as what they do to the site doesn't suck. I love hearing about more movies and getting fun virtual items would rock.
I am actually quite excited. What also makes me even more happy is that the movie looks awesome. See? The simple text mention of a new film on a site I enjoy and frequent worked already. I checked out the website and downloaded the trailer. And I'm also telling a friend who will tell another friend and so on. ~_^
I am looking forward to seeing The Last Mimzy.
What has provided additional entertainment is the reactions in the feedback area. There are people excited about the new items and speculating what they might be. There are also people freaking out that ZOMG Gaia sold out! Given that Gaia is a free site and they are such a heavy bandwidth site, it makes perfect sense they are investigating creative avenues of revenue.
