i raced through this series, because i was so into the show by the beginning of may. i really liked this season a lot. in fact, i think it may well be my favourite. i guess that's because this season was, to me, the most powerful and the most interesting character wise. i fell in love with anya and tara but still had a swoony xander crush.
i liked "once more with feeling", where sunnydale was magically transformed into a musical. i love musicals, and have "guys and dolls" and "singin in the rain" on dvd. j made me a cd of all the songs which i listened to all the way to france and back. i loved xander and anya's duet because it was so sweet and funny, especially when he sings: "this is my verse - hello!" i looked at tara in an entirely different light when she sang the song "under your spell" to willow. it made me really warm to her as a character. i really liked her dance, too! i liked buffy's songs the best, though. i love "give me something to sing about" and "going through the motions". sarah michelle gellar was quoted as saying that making the musical episode was hell, but i think she did such a good job.
buffy and spike started having sex. a lot of people think spike is really sexy and the main problem i had with all the sex scenes the two characters had was that i find spike kind of gross. in real life, the actor is about forty and is super skinny and i hate his bleached hair and leather pants!
warren and the nerds attempted to make an innocent young girl their willing sex slave, and when she tried to escape, she was brutally murdered. spike attempted to rape buffy. warren was a typical male misogynist, and i think i hated him more than i hated any of the other "big bad"s in buffy history. when willow was torturing him in the woods after he'd shot and killed her girlfriend, he was still repugnant, telling willow that she was just like all the other women in the world. he was arrogant, stupid and sexist. i wasn't upset when willow skinned him and killed him. in fact, i was glad. that kind of shocked me, but that was one of the things i loved about this seasn of buffy: it made me surprised by my own reactions.
i had unwittingly discovered that tara would be shot and killed by reading an issue of "bitch" magazine a couple of months ago. still, when it did happen, i was totally shocked. it happened just after she had made up with willow again, and they were happy together. it really, really sucked. when tara broke up with willow, i was able to see more about her as an individual and i liked her even more. also in this series, i discovered a lot more about anya. previously to me she had been really funny and lovely, but after she was left at the altar by xander she became more real. her bravey and courage floored me. i hope she gets back with xander!
i feel really sad that this season is over, and there's only one more to go.
