Thank you everyone who had supported me emotionally with your kind words when I was transiting in personal turmoil. My folks came home from a holiday today. They had left just before I handed in my thesis, so I had time to recite what I wanted to say to them. I felt the timing was right today, so I finally dropped the bomb.

Just a tiny update. I'm home, sound and safe. My alarm went off 3 hours earlier than it was meant to, and I had actually bounced out of bed, gotten ready and only realized 15 min later that it wasn't the right time!
