Hello stalkers and beloved readers, I didn't want people thinking I disappeared again. I have many things to deal with in irl. I might not be churning translations as regularly as I wanted due to immense changes to my work life.
You can read my rant or skip it entirely:
A new school year started in Japan. My school's had teachers come and go. For some inane reason teachers in Japan are rotated every few years within their state/prefecture. This is very disruptive to students and teachers. Anyhow, the new teachers I have to work with are a completely mixed bag. Out of the six teachers I work with, three are new. None has experience teaching at high school level. One has worked in a cram school for 18 years and is completely out of touch with more modern teaching strategies, another only taught young children prior and lastly a fresh graduate with bad grammar and heavily accented English (the students are struggling to understand). I am walking these teachers through everything and there are many screws loose! One completely forgot we had class today...luckily I managed to save him from getting his ass whooped.
In Japan, schools make teachers take up management or coaching of clubs/teams up to three hours a day. Teachers are also expected to attend all tournaments even if they are on weekends or national holidays. I really don't like this system because teachers arrive to work at 7:30 AM and leave at 7 or 8 PM. Teachers already have so many things to deal with at senior high school level! Teachers that don't even know how to play a certain sport is often assigned to it. Worst was when three teachers were assigned to music club but none could even play an instrument. My former workmate was the coach for our female soft tennis team. They are pretty highly ranked in Japan. Now that she is gone the team didn't get a replacement coach. The male team coach has cut down their training hours because he is lazy. He wanted to lock up earlier so he can head home quicker. As a favor to my former co-worker I volunteered to stay behind each day to supervise.
My parents are also coming to Japan in ten days time, they will be staying for three weeks. I have been busy cleaning my place so they won't think I live like a savage. Then there is organizing their schedule...busy, busy, busy! Additionally, I am heading home for good come August so I'm starting my packing process...
Thanks for reading, I hope you are well and safe.
