Wicca and Politics

Being young and new to voting (only 21!) I've been doing a lot of research on various candidates and political parties to see where I fit in. I was raised in a very conservative and Catholic family with parents who told me "always vote for the Republican candidate." Well, I'm not conservative, obviously not Catholic, and not voting Republican in this or any other lifetime (no offense to anyone here who may be a Republican. Kudos to you. It's just not my cup of tea). The area I'm living in right now for school is really liberal and almost everyone is a Democrat and Obama crazy. But I don't find myself fitting in there either.

In the past year I had taken some tests and researched various parties to come to the conclusion that I may fit in more in a libertarian way of life, but the candidate this year is WAY too conservative (he wants to ban the practice of Wicca in the military!!!) and all the libertarian-esque candidates who were in the primaries obviously didn't make it. I read a little about the PSL (a modern socialist party) and found myself sort of liking them because I've always been a fan of socialism, but they seem a little angry. So I found myself reading about the Green Party and felt really connected to what they were saying, mostly because of their semi-socialist views, support of the arts and alternative education, and strong suppo environmental policies. Obviously, being Wiccan and so involved with nature, all this environmental stuff is extremely important to me, and that's definitely going to be a huge factor in how I vote.

So, alas, while sitting here as a computer lab monitor (the most boring job ever), I'm killing time researching parties and I thought it might be interesting to see what others have to say about politics and how their beliefs (spiritual or otherwise) may sway them in the current elections. I just filled out my voter registration and decided not to pick a party just yet, since it's not necessary for the general elections, but I would like to hear what others think since it's always nice to hear things that you may not think of.

Thanks ahead and Blessed Be!

Tamara
