The pattern for Sanzo's robes was based off of a Halloween pattern for a kimono from the 1970s our mom had lying around, though Soli altered it herself. If you get a woman's kimono pattern, the only main difference is the sleeves. Sanzo's sleeves slope gently from the shoulder to the large rectangular forearm of the sleeve, while a traditional kimono has a sharp transition. We used faintly off-white Kona cotton.
Soli made the arm guards without a pattern and they were trail and error. she used an old shirt that happened to be the same style as Sanzo's black shirt as a pattern for making his top. The material we used for that was double lined black bathing-suit nylon. it's stretchy without being clingy and subtly shimmers. what ever you use for his black top, i highly recommend NOT using vinyl. ^^;;; and start skulking around ebay now for silver rings! lol it took soli the better part of several months of casually searching ebay to find a seller with a matching set of plain silver rings the right size.
