By about 8:30 ish, things were starting to wrap up, and it was time to start Part 3 of the day: Halloween Night.
It didn't take me but about half an hour to get changed and get ready. I eventually made my way over to Tori's place, and we had a shot and drink before heading down to Sarah's place.
Amusing parts of the evening up to that point:
- I had at least 3 texts on my phone from different people asking about my plans
- Tori and I had never drank together, so having a shot of TERRIBLE tequila together was hilarious
- Her boyfriend and roommate had been smoking earlier, so they were amusing by themselves
In good time, we slowly but surely got to the house party. It was funny because we had only met them the once at the ice cream social thing last month, so at every party we passed, we were like "Is this 350? We're looking for house number 350". When we got there, we again asked, "Is this 350?", and then there was this moment of hesitation until we reconnected with who each other was.
Reasons why this was a great party:
- Nobody knew each other!
- There was such a great mix of different people
- There was a whole lot of intermingling and getting to know said assorted people
- Most everybody were grad students
- Good drinks, good atmosphere, good conversation, good times
- I hit it off with this guy, Jake, and ended up swapping numbers
By about midnight, though, it was time to head down to the 'Ville. This again was a fun (and completely conceited, I know) moment of feeling popular/wanted for the first time. The party crowd had dispersed to the four winds, and I was getting texts from SAC and band people. Tori and I hooked up with the "band" people which ended up only being Brandon (Bayless, not SAC Brandon), Tracy, and Brandon's roommate Don, but I quickly started running into way more people including the SAC people. Even SAC Brandon was out with some friends completely separate from the SAC crowd. Fantastic. Pictures and laughs ensued as we scoped out each others' costumes.
The end of the evening was truly fitting. As Tori and I were getting yelled at to leave the bar (along with hundreds of our dearest friends), we spotted a rickshaw outside. Now back-story here: we had talked with a Joe the Plumber earlier at the house party who gave rickshaw rides from Aggieville. Tori and I were marveling at how awesome it'd be to be pulled by bike rather than taking a taxi or something, and lo and behold, the option actually presented itself, so we hopped on it...literally. What a blast. He jingled his bike bell, and you could see all the jealous looks from the people we passed.
Once back, we scarfed down some pizza the boys had bought, and I went ahead and drove home after I had sobered up well enough to drive (which really wasn't that long).
Interestingly, I think I had more fun Friday because I wasn't drunk. I had the shot and beer at Tori's, a homemade spiked cider at the house party, and a beer at the bar. That was it. Now that I'm starting to feel more comfortable around the people here, I think I don't feel so compelled to drink as much or peer-pressured. It's nice because the light buzz is so much more my style.
