The last two days, I've been feeling pretty crappy...yesterday, especially. It felt like I'd been shoved under a steam roller or something. x___X So I've been trying to take it easy. Even sitting at the computer for a while seemed too exhausting, so I've been mostly sleeping, reading, or laying in bed watching horror movies and Ru Paul's Drag Race on Netflix. I think I'm finally starting to feel a little better, but I still feel super tired. (Maybe the weather's finally gonna change! I seem to always feel really drained once the seasons start turning...) I need to hurry up and feel better so I can finish doodling patterns for possible embroidery commissions. orz
I somehow managed to get myself together enough to record an audition before I started feeling really gross, though. It just sounded & looked so cute! It's for an indie game targeted towards toddlers, a matching game of some kind. They were looking for some "warm" sounding voices for narrators (which I thought I could do ok), as well as someone for the mascot for the game...a little bunny named Rebecca. (Which, of course, TOTALLY appealed to me, if you know me and my love for bunnies! X3) So I recorded auditions for both. Supposedly they'll be updating their audition post some time today, so...fingers crossed, I guess!
And now, something completely random! I was feeling bored the other day, so I decided to try something I'd been thinking about off and on before. I was curious to see, in the 2 years or so since I started
Listia, how much money I've spent trading stuff versus how much the stuff I've gotten through it would've cost me if I'd bought them.
I decided the best way to determine this was to go through my old listings, see what I had listed, and calculate how much I spent on buying & shipping items that I listed on there. Which actually didn't take as long as I thought to calculate--most of the stuff I've listed was stuff I just had laying around. In the instances I specifically bought things JUST to list, they were very small and always cost less than $3 (I made that a personal rule for myself. I wasn't gonna blow a ton of money on shit to basically give away, lol.) Most of the things I'd list were small, too, so the shipping costs were easy to estimate or remember. So after crunching the numbers, I came up a grand total of around $200 spent over the last 2 years. Which at first surprised me a little bit...but then I realized that for 2 years, that's actually not too bad. I've probably spent much more than that on mailing letters in the past few years to penpals, when I think about it.
So then came the task of tallying up the "worth" of all the things I'd won with the credits I'd accumulated. This took longer, because I'd look up the average prices of whatever it was on Amazon, eBay, or where ever...figure out what the cost would be to have it shipped to me if it wasn't something I could easily purchase in town, and then adjust the price accordingly. (For example, that box of 23 manga books I got recently...while the cover prices on the books are between $9-15 each, some of them were more worn than others, so I averaged each book at around $5, which is what I'd most likely pay to buy them used at the bookstore...even the stuff that sells used on Amazon for only a dollar, most people still charge $2-4 for shipping, so it still averages out to close to $5 a book.) I'd also subtract any shipping amounts I had to pay when a swapper didn't offer free shipping, since that would go towards what I'd "spent" already on Listia. On some things I even estimated the price/value much lower than what people were asking simply because I thought that, realistically, I didn't think they were worth that much.
ANYWAY...after tallying it all up on my calculator, I came up with an estimated grand total of--drumroll please! $1130 worth of items! *jawdrop*
This kind of surprised me, really. I had assumed maybe I'd gotten $500 worth of things, since I'd only put about $200 into it. But seeing as a lot of the stuff I've won over time has been DVD box sets and such, that stuff DOES add up quickly. Not to mention some of the books/manga, video games, and other random stuff I've managed to snag. Seeing as I don't make a ton of money right now this cheered me up immensely, knowing that I still managed to have fun and get things for myself (and others--I've won a few things that ended up being gifts, I won't lie. And I'll prolly do it again! XD) without spending much. I guess growing up broke, I learned to appreciate stuff like this, so I'm sorta stupidly proud about that. XD;;;
Such an exciting life I lead, yes? Quite.
