NYC Trip

Everything went well with my trip to NYC. I don't know if I got the job yet though...they said they'd get back to me within a few weeks. Ughh...the waiting lol! I think I did alright though. I don't think I did as good as the first time in Atlanta, but I think I still did good. It was a totally different setup this time. When I first got there, there was a line waiting outside to get in. Then, all the people in line had to check in at the table. Then, we got directed to a table to fill out some paperwork and they asked me to go to a certain section because I was going to the communication/interior design department. IKEA was hiring for the whole store since it is a brand new store so they opened the interviews up to the whole Brooklyn community. There were soooo many people there! I got to my section and the design team introduced themselves to me and I was instructed to sit at a table and wait because they were waiting for a few more people. I didn't even know I'd be seeing all the other people who were interviewing for that job too! But 5 more people came and we were all sitting at the table. Then, this guy came over to us and told us a little about IKEA and the design department etc etc. Then, he said we'd be breaking up to 2 groups and doing a small project. We had to take 2 pictures of products from the IKEA catalog and match them with other pictures of furniture and products from other magazines to create a room (a collage). Then we had to present it to everyone afterwards. We had 15 minutes so everyone was going fast! The group I was in was this black girl and this hispanic guy. The guy was really kinda trying to take over! He was trying to tell me what to do instead of working together as a team! It was really annoying because I felt like they were in one team and I was in another because they weren't really including me in their discussion about some of their choices of pictures. I showed them mine and explained why I thought they worked but he just kinda seemed like a delegator instead of a team member. So anyway, when we presented he talked first, then the girl, then me. I was kinda standing in the back of the semicircle because it was so tight in there. When it was my time to talk, I said excuse me and wanted to stand up front so they knew I was no pushover and I wanted them to see me present. I put some good points into the presentation. I thought our team should've discussed who the room was for (male or female, young or old, city or country) so we can incorporate why we made the choices we did. But we never just talked about or plan. They just kinda jumped into it. But when I spoke, I noticed that the IKEA people were jotting down notes so I hope they liked what I said. Then after the presentations, we had individual interviews in the same area. I was so nervous! I don't think I did as good as before in ATL but I still think I did alright. I'm just continuing to believe that I got this job. They asked me what kinda salary was I looking for, why I wanted to work for IKEA, why do I think I have what it takes, my experiences, etc etc...they checked out my portfolio and it seems like she liked my work so I just hope I get some good news in a few weeks :)

We had fun in NYC afterwards. God definitely blessed us with fun, safety, and good directions. I knew what subways to take...we didn't get lost! I mean, usually I get kinda lost and don't know what subways to take but I was the one helping my friend and sister around the city! It was so great! I feel like I could really handle living there alone and knowing where to go and stuff by myself.
