A very late September update but here it is!
So I turned 42 in mid-September. With Scarlett around, normal holidays just seem to fall by the wayside. Both Nicole and I had birthdays but we didn't really do anything or celebrate. I think my gift to myself was to buy $80 worth of music CDs from a store online. I got a bunch of great stuff, though! Our CD collection is up over 800 albums (Which is amazing considering we only started collecting 22 months ago) and it's a fantastic mix of everything from the 60's to today. There's sections for classical, Celtic, disco, jazz, and movie soundtracks. We even have a section for children's albums that'll come in handy when Scarlett is old enough to enjoy it. It's funny how everything Nicole and I do these days comes back to Scarlett. Our world really does revolve around her right now and that includes letting holidays, birthdays, and celebrations take a back seat.
Speaking of Scarlett, she had her big six month check-in at the pediatrician during September. It went splendidly and our little girl continues to thrive and grow like a weed! She continues to be in the 90th percentile for height and her focus and attention are becoming very strong. She's crawling everywhere now and babbling like she's got everything to say. She can also stand when she's up against something, so we're sure she'll be walking ahead of schedule, too. It's amazing how many milestones she hits so often. Every other day, she does something new or gives up something that used to work. For example, she used to go down for sleep so easily but now she struggles and fusses and the only way we can get her to sleep is to wear her in a harness. It's a struggle but hopefully it's just a phase. We've also started her on solid foods which has been a mess but an adorable one. She's going to be a handful of a child but also very smart and talented. Just gotta survive these early months...
In other news, the transition to the Pilot team at my workplace has been rough. In the weeks since I was supposed to start, my boss has been either out sick, on PTO, or traveling which has made my transition impossible. I genuinely have no idea what I should be doing and I have no camaraderie with my new coworkers so it's been a struggle. I have a sinking suspicion that they think I'm a lazy jerk but it's really only because I have been given little to no instruction and I'm apprehensive about taking on the work they claim I should be doing because I only should be taking orders from my boss and not anyone else. It sucks. As I write this in mid-October, I'm on a two-week paternity leave break which I'm hoping will give my management a chance to iron out my job responsibilities. Otherwise, it might just be more time sitting around and waiting for real, actionable instructions. Oh well...
