This should be a fairly quick entry. It's been a wild week and a half since my last entry. Last Saturday was Jaci's going away party with all her Boise friends. She really has a lot of friends! It was kind of awkward for me at first because I only knew one or two of them but as the day went on and more and more people left, it became easier for me to engage. By the end of the party, there were only a half dozen people and the conversations were lively and fun. It was a beautiful day and the weather here has been very comfortable for the most part. A great party! Great food too!
Since then, Jaci and I have been trying to focus on beginning the big move. We've had constant distractions, though. Whether it's sleeping in until 1 PM or dining out or renting a bunch of silly old movies to relax in her living room with, we haven't made a whole lot of progress. Although a couple nights ago, one of Jaci's best friends came out and we tore through her garage and the kitchen finding everything that could go up for sale at a garage sale. We loaded a truck and a car to the gills and are waiting to hear how things did; if we made any money. Seeing so much stuff leave has been great. Seeing the garage and most of the kitchen empty is, strangely, empowering. Hopefully today we'll get more progress done and before you know it, this place will look more empty than cluttered.
I've decided to spend one more weekend out here before returning to Portland. I'm aiming for a June 21st return date. I've convinced Jaci to stay here until the 30th because I want her to have some time to put things in order with me not here. I'm worried that while I'm here I'm a distraction keeping her from getting this house cleaned out and squared away. I've been here for two whole weeks now and all we've truly done towards getting Jaci ready for a move to South Dakota is getting rid of some furniture and cleaning out the garage and kitchen. Hopefully if we take small steps each day, we'll at least deal with the heavy stuff that having me around to help with is most important for.
One great personal accomplishment I've had since being here was being able to fix my laptop LCD. Shortly after I got here, the LCD started to flicker and seemed to be dying. I was able to buy a replacement part on eBay for literally $6 and install it myself even though I didn't bring many tools with me let alone the tiny tools needed to fix a tiny device such as a laptop. Things have been perfect and it's one less broken thing. Now I only worry about my car, which we believe might be as simple a problem as a clogged fuel filter. I don't plan on really dealing with it until I get back to Portland, so hopefully the Geo will hold up for a couple more weeks...
