The whirlwind courtship of Leann continues! I'd forgotten how nice it is to live within driving distance of someone you're trying to date. It's nice to be able to talk to her online and then offer to run out and grab her on a whim for a quick run somewhere. After having nothing but long distance relationships for nearly 10 years, this is refreshing. This is awesome.
Leann and I went out Thursday on what I'll call a very fun boring date. We began with dinner at
Baja Fresh before spending several hours walking around local strip mall bookstores window-shopping for humorous books. She wanted to show me several self-help books with silly topics but after an eon of searching, we couldn't find any of them. Giant bookstores with millions of books and none of what we were looking for. It was an evening filled with walking and the disappointment of not being successful in shopping for what we were out to find. But, the real fun of the evening was being around Leann and watching her move and studying her ticks and mannerisms. It was nice to talk to her and get close. There was sweetness and entertainment in being goofy with her. At one point, we talked about calling it a night since we'd begun aimlessly walking around grocery stores, but I told her I enjoyed just being around her more than letting her get away. It really didn't matter where we were as long as I could have her around a little longer. Later that evening, when we finally did part ways, she sent me a text message saying that she really adored me saying that. Things are looking good!
We're open for business! This weekend, one of our neighbors organized a block-wide garage sale for today, tomorrow and Sunday. We've known about this for weeks but we didn't truly get ready for it until early this morning. My parents went through the garage and the yard and snatched all the tools and garden stuff they knew they'd never use again. We stuck sticker labels on everything and tossed it all on the driveway by 8:30. Even as we were loading things onto the make-shift tables we'd hastily constructed on the driveway, people were already lining up to check things out. Leann warned me about these habitual garage sale hunters, who stalk the paper for listings and are anal about getting to sales before they open. Once things did fire up officially at 9 AM, things got hopping. Within an hour, we'd made $100. By the time we'd closed up at 3 PM, our day's take approached $500.
It wasn't too bad sitting in the garage all day with my dad talking about random stuff while watching dozens of people come and go. Some would get stuff without question and some would haggle for a better price but most just came and saw and continued walking the block. On a street with 30+ homes, word was that only three people did sales today. Hopefully, tomorrow, things will really pick up and we'll get rid of everything else that's hanging around that we didn't sell today. My dad has caught the fever of getting rid of stuff and has already gone around the house picking up more stuff that we can sell in the morning. He's really happy a few items sold (Such as a few sports car wheels and tires that I haven't myself been able to sell for years) and with a wad of cash in his hand, he's energetic about the next two days.
I personally did great too. I have a lot of electronics I tried to sell, including a 10-year-old laptop and an HP desktop computer which both sold within a few hours for exactly what I wanted for them. I did good. Tomorrow is going to be crazy, however. Sound be fun. Here's a quick photo of the festivities we put on today. See ya on the driveway tomorrow!
