And more good news
Since I am going to be able to start moving my stuff to the new flat next week, I went to the fleamarkets and the recycling centre to look for stuff for the flat--yes, I am actually well enough to do that, FOUR DAYS FROM SURGERY. (With the aid of a walking stick and a hefty corset to keep my gut from being jostled, of course.) And, um... cheapo finds were made. I found an old-fashioned phone bench (gossip chair)--something I'll need next to the hallway so I can sit down when I put on my shoes clothes and where I can also put my keys and stuff--for ridiculously cheap. One that looks a bit like this, but with light, stripey, Rococo-ish (and new!) upholstery. I can't even *begin* to stress how hard it is to find shit like that in Finland on a budget--you basically have to be a millionaire to afford that stuff, and new ones don't really get made in Finland. The site I just linked to says "price on request," meaning it'll be expensive as hell, and the bench itself is made in Italy because God forbid Finnish furniture factories would ever make anything *pretty* and curvy and out of dark wood of all things! I don't know where mine was made, but IDGAF, because I got something prettyyyy \o/ and useful as hell.
Other finds: an old timey wastepaper bin made of metal and painted black with some birds and things (much in the way of old Orientalish tea caddies), perfect for an umbrella stand (well, a walking stick and other pointy long stuff stand for me). And a small side table with two drawers, perfect for the bedroom--also of dark wood and with Oriental decorations (!!!!), also from the recycling centre, FIVE EUROS. The lady at the till said it'd been in their shop for ten minutes! So I'm glad I did go there even if I thought I was too tired to do so. Especially as I'd been in town and had just gone to a print shop to get an A3 print of this to put on the hallway wall--I've wanted a poster of that damn thing up on my wall for like twenty years now, so it was about fuckin' time. (I appreciate the way they've rendered the cat eyes and the lashes, because those are very appropriate.)
