And more good news

Since I am going to be able to start moving my stuff to the new flat next week, I went to the fleamarkets and the recycling centre to look for stuff for the flat--yes, I am actually well enough to do that, FOUR DAYS FROM SURGERY. (With the aid of a walking stick and a hefty corset to keep my gut from being jostled, of course.) And, um... cheapo ( Read more... )

Ooh, I love those phone benches and have been wanting one for my own hallway ever since I moved into my flat 19 years ago -- but as you say, they are impossible to find. I would even have settled for a plainer 70s one, but the thing you got is DREAMY. What a find!

I shall take a pic once it's safely in the new flat--hopefully by next week! The light, stripey Rococo upholstery on mine isn't too bad and I also suspect it won't wear out as fast as a velvet one, so that's good. I've already ordered a 6 euro Indian sari fabric mat off eBay (this auction, the maroon mandala one) to cover the scratched phone table surface :3 (I highly recommend that eBay shop, BTW. That's where I got my cheap sari fabrics for curtains and stuff. Great if you need some affordable brocade-y materials.)

Also, velvet and cats is not always a great combo, especially since that is precisely the sort of thing my cat would immediately appropriate as an obvious Cat Bed™. :) My old burgundy plush sofa got a sofa cover about the same time that Rosa moved in...

Those are very nice, I guess the maroon mandala one is the top left one in the overview picture?

Yeah, velvet is a cat attractant! I'm pretty sure she'll sleep wherever she wants, however, even if her current favourite is my ancient 1950s chair with a soft woolly thick-knit upholstery thing that is also a cat hair magnet. Thankfully the fabric is so coarse I can easily brush it clean with the same brush I use for grooming her, so small mercies. I think the fabric on the phone bench is just heavyish cotton (approximately like the denim on thinner jeans), so unfortunately that's going to require a tape brush...

And yeah, the maroon mandale is the top left one. I'm in love with that shop even if it takes about three weeks to get the stuff and they always send it as registered, so I have to go to the damn post office to pick it up. But soon enough, I'm going to change postcodes and can finally go and pick my stuff up at the city centre's post office, which is far closer, so that's something I'm *really* happy about...

Excellent finds, and really, only a week to go? I'm really looking forward to seeing what you do with the new flat.

Also, great to hear how much better you're feeling!
