things happen so fast these days. well i'm pretty sure it's always been like that and it's not just some recent occurrence. BUT THINGS CHANGE SO FUCKING QUICKLY. literally... day to day, hour to hour, moment to moment. the universe shifts. your world completely changes. you saw something one way and then for no reason at all something alters that perception and suddenly you're seeing the same thing in a completely different way. everything changes. people suddenly mean so much more. or so much less, i guess. as the case may be. ah i might not be able to write about this right now.
you could want one thing in one instant and then want something else in the next.
and i mean i guess that's the great thing about people... this ability to completely chameleonize ourselves.
it just seems like it makes the world a little too... unstable.
how do you know what to trust as lasting and having some kind of semi-permanent meaning?
this doesn't even really have anything to do with ME changing... but more like how do you know that people won't change their minds about you? suddenly someone else is smarter sexier more fun and in that instant someone has changed their thoughts about you. mmm this is kinda reeking of inadequacy feelings but i think it's more than that. cause things really do change like that. and it freaks the FUCK out of me. which is super hard to do ha ha. i amuse myself so.
broken tv's don't seem so bad at first but the longer they exist the more of a pain in the ass they become.
also... i think the stigma against drugs is ridiculously politically-based. i mean drugs and the lifestyle in general were so much more accepted some 3 or 4 decades ago. and not to downplay the influence of drugs or anything... but i feel like they couldn't have caused enough trouble to make them as taboo (legally) as they are today. it was such a different world back then and drug use was so much more readily accepted by the public. and i mean... i know there are the stupid people who have done stupid things on drugs and end up hurting or even killing themselves or other people while they were on drugs. but it seriously doesn't seem like it would add up to the insane legal uprising against modern drug use. it's all about the politics. drug culture generally rebels against the system... and having this ever-growing group of people who continue to fight for independence and support the idea of "just going with it" and fuck everyone who disagrees because they just don't know... that's threatening to any system trying to control the group. control. when drugs are involved the government doesn't have the control it wants to have over its people.
on that note... back to reading tom wolfe :)
