It was more than his height that made him stand out, it was his voice which carried an exotic accent and rich tone. It somehow made him feel intimidated and plain in comparison. Tails merely nodded, craning his neck up to meet the eyes of his opponent.
"Y..yes. But please call me Tails. It's nice to meet you, Panther..." Tails didn't sound meek but he didn't sound overbearing with confidence either. He worked hard in the inside to build up his courage before the countdown at least.

"Let's fight with honor," he said, tossing the rose to the ground, as the countdown sounded.
3... 2... 1... Go!
"Shall we?"

He felt a bit scared at an impending reaction from cat, but yet he felt at least some sort of satisfaction from landing the ever vital first strike. It was something that Sonic had taught the fox. A particular quote came to his mind from his earlier years 'Don't get hit, kid', he told him.
Tails nodded and set out to follow that.

'This is going to be a bit more challenging than expected,' he thought to himself as he took a few more steps back. Although he certainly had an advantage in reach over the fox-not to mention the Crimson Thorn further extended that reach-said fox being merely half his height or so would make him a difficult opponent for Panther to hit.
For a moment, he looked down at his side, the beautifully-crafted hilt of his rapier sitting against his hip. He shook his head; no, not yet. He wouldn't use it unless he really felt the need for it. For now, he'd use what he was born with.
He darted towards the young vulpine, a fist pulled back as though to punch him, but at the last second, he unclenched his fist and flipped over Tails, using his hand to give him leverage.
A feint.
He landed gracefully behind the two-tailed fox in a crouch before performing a sweeping kick at Tails' feet.

'That wasn't good', he thought 'If I didn't duck, I could've seen his jump...' It was too obvious of a jump-in to ignore like that, something he wasn't pleased about.
His mental gears cranking inside, he backed up and summoned one of ChuChu bombs with a simple point. It appeared before, a small bomb on four feet, crafted after a simple cartoon mouse with a white body and blue ears and two beady eyes. It scurried across the ground at a frantic pace towards Panther, its jittery motions fairly hard to predict.

'A bomb...' He looked about him; there was nothing on the stage he could hide behind, and nothing he could use throw as a projectile other than roses to cause a premature explosion-besides, their erratic paths were too difficult to predict for him to be able to hit it. The only thing for sure was that they would come for him.
Panther drew his rapier from its sheath. At least it would give him a little more distance from the center of the explosion than actually getting hit himself. When it came within range, he swung at the bomb, causing it to explode. He braced himself for the impact from the explosion and was thrown back a bit. He twisted himself through the air and landed near a ledge-a close call. If he had miscalculated, he might not have been able to recover very well.
He sniffed. "Did you know that charred fur smells disgusting?"

A bit late answering his question, Tails decided to reply back anyway as he landed to the ground "Yeah, I know the feeling!" And it was a true statement at least; the young fox had no intentions of burning anyone's fur for precisely that reason.

The next thing, he knew, he was falling down into oblivion; he had been careless again and thrown off by Tails' distraction tactic. And even though it looked like outer space, it certainly wasn't-he could tell by the gravity pulling him down, down. But no, he wouldn't stand for going down, not just yet. The battle had only begun, after all.
Even with nothing underneath him, he managed one jump-two jumps-and barely managed to catch the ledge. Panther grunted as he hefted himself up hastily, aiming another kick for the two-tailed vulpine's legs again.
