SOME DAY LATER WHEN IT IS MOST CONVENIENT.... pedaltothemetal January 7 2011, 01:14:57 UTC
Somewhere in between dropping off a fresh pair of clothes, hightailing it out of there again, and retreating to the Falconcave firehouse/his office for copious amounts of brooding, Falcon realized he had overlooked a Very Important Thing.

If this Jeff had no memories of him or the school, he subsequently had no disappointment or disillusionment when it came to the Captain, something admittedly rife in their relationship. In his mire of "I completely and totally fucked up with Ionia", the prospect of a second chance with Jeff was a bittersweet one. Mostly he didn't know how to feel, but he did know that he couldn't avoid the student forever.

So he would seek him out. Maybe see how he was doing--hopefully he hadn't been completely overwhelmed by all these people saying they knew him. The obvious solution was to add one more.

After checking the cafeteria, the common rooms, and OldJeff's dorm, Falcon figured the kid might be back with the Skyrunner, and sure enough, a walk to the fountain proved successful.

For a few moments, the Captain looked about as awkward as Jeff did, slowly approaching the crash site but wavering, or taking a step backward, or stuffing his hands in his pockets and nudging at the dirt with his sneaker...eventually he figured he should man up and stop acting like a creep.

He didn't want to sit there and tell the student about the Jeff he knew, or reminisce about days gone by, because upsetting him was the last thing Falcon wanted to do. After making up his mind to not pass over the Skyrunner without so much as a greeting, he walked up to the wreck and idly rubbed some dirt off the damaged hull with the edge of his sleeve. "Need any help?"

Falcon, however, was not going to take no for an answer and moved around the Skyrunner to see the extent of the damage. "I'd imagine Dr. Andonuts is hard to track down in any timeline." The offhand comment was accompanied by a little snort and when the Captain realized he was probably being a little insensitive, his expression softened. "I wish I could tell you I knew where he is."

He tore his gaze away and concentrated on the wrecked craft still half-buried in the dirt and brick from the pathway around the fountain. "I mean, it's no trouble. I don't know much about time machines but I am a fair mechanic." Falcon offered a tiny smile. How much he'd be able to do with this older version of the Skyrunner was yet to be seen.

He ducked down behind the machine to peer inside it and also sort of hide his facial expression of general displeasure with the situation. The less he hinted to things involving OldJeff, the better. It was only going to make the both of them upset.

There was really nothing particularly stunning about the old Skyrunner, especially now that it had crashed. Falcon had admittedly never seen a time machine, but he was pretty sure they didn't look like this. Of course, that begged to question what exactly had happened to cause this paradox in the first place.

"Do you know why it crashed?"

Yeah, this thing looked pretty old. Probably from 199X or something. Falcon idly entertained the idea of taking Jeff to see the new and improved thirty-thousand credit Skyrunner. The kid would probably flip all the shits. On one hand, it might cheer him up, on the other, just make him feel worse. Perhaps Falcon would hold off on that for now.

"First time flyer?"

"I've never ridden a Skidoo." He smiled weakly and started fiddling with a wire that was poking out at an odd angle. Falcon might not have been accustomed to the old Skyrunner, but he knew they weren't going to get very far just sitting here and moping around it.

"Let's go grab some tools. There should be some extras in the autoshop room."

And so they were off to the autoshop room.It was difficult to keep in mind what this new Jeff did and didn't know--this Jeff had never seen the Blue Falcon, never ridden in it, and certainly didn't know how to drive it. The Captain didn't really want to cultureshock the poor kid any more than he had been, so perhaps it was lucky that the blue behemoth was currently out in the parking lot and not pulled into the autoshop garage for tweaking.

What was in the autoshop room was a veritable mess of works-in-progress from students, teachers, and otherwise. Pieces of cars and motorcycles and flying machines littered the garage, with tools and blueprints scattered everywhere, and a suspicious brown smear on one of the walls that was totally motor oil and not blood. Nope.

Falcon made a beeline for a large, blue toolbox. "Here we are."

Sorry, Falcon. Jeff was much more interested looking at car parts. He went from vehicle to vehicle, sticking his head under open hoods and poking at engines and other things he'd never seen before, and trying to see if he could lift and entire wheel on his own (he couldn't).

THIS WAS THE BEST SCHOOL EVER.

Oh. But he'd have to leave it and go back to his own time. Oh yeah... At least he knew he'd get to see this all again when he was older. Even if it meant waiting a few years. Sigh.
