Characters: Rhys and all magic students
What: Magic class- and the use of tomes. \o/
Where: First the magic classroom, then the courtyard.
When: Friday the 18th of September.
Warnings: MAGICAL HAZARDS MAYBE. Don't expect any misconduct coming from Rhys. He's too holy.
The students are in the magic classroom, naturally. Rhys may or may not have brought his hand sanitizer along with just for extra precaution against dangerous pathogens, but regardless of those concerns, he gave off quite the jovial vibe today.
He waits for all the students to be present and seated before he begins the intro. "Ah, good morning, magic class!" he starts- his tone may shake off as a bit ecstatic for those who cared to be more observant than most. "You know already; we've changed jobs. Rather than teaching about disease contraction, well, it looks like I'll be teaching about a special kind of magic today. Aren't you excited? I sure am. Oh! Can you tell? How obvious of me."
He walks over to his desk and takes a few thickly bounded books with fancy, intricate embellishing on it. They come in different colors. He sets them on the pulpit that just happens to be there. "I may not be familiar with the brand of magic your other instructor may be teaching, so today will be a special lesson. From my world, magic does come in different forms, but the one most commonly used by sages and apprentices alike comes in the form of these books here." He backtracks a little and picks one up. He attempted at first to do it with one hand, but he almost dropped it. He presents it to the class as a creamy white, yellow, and gold book with a simplistic cross design and a border on the front. It looks pretty fancy- not like any old book.
"These are called tomes. Most of the time, they can be used in battle. They come in different elements.
The one I happen to be holding is called Light, which is the only spell I am capable of using. How tomes work is this: by chanting the magical incantation written in the book and concentrating on bringing the spiritual energy of the magic towards you, you can contact spirits who have passed on to help you. I want you to be thinking about which element you would like to try your hand at. Different spirits have different affinities. For example, Light magic utilizes good and pure spirits who are willing to manifest inside of those who generally do good- priests and priestesses tend to use Light because they are connected with the divine realm in some way. The opposite of Light is, as you may have guessed already, Dark. From what I've heard, not many apprentices are capable of wielding Dark magic. It takes the offering of evil spirits who dwell in hell and channels through you to cast a dark spell. Many times, mages will try their hand at another element before turning to dark magic. There have been some highly successful sages of the fell arts. It would be quite shocking to see somebody be a natural at attracting dark spirits around here! Oooh, how spooky."
He goes back behind the podium and places the tome down to replace it with
Wind because it happens to be the scantest in the weight department. "Here we have an example of Anima magic. These are the most common choices for magic users. They're a lot of fun, really. They come in three different types: Wind, like you see here, Fire, and Thunder. Allow me to explain the trinity of magic. It's a lot like playing rock paper scissors, really. Fire beats Wind, Wind beats Thunder, and, you guessed it, Thunder beats Fire. You may be wondering how light and dark fit in, and let me explain that too. Light, unfortunately, is beat out by all the Anima types." He taps the green tome's cover as if referring to Anima. "It does, however, have the advantage against Dark. Dark is able to beat out all of the Anima types, but like I said, is susceptible to Light spells."
He pauses momentarily. "Let's see... have I forgotten anything? Oh! I should tell you that spells are written in an ancient, unreadable language. I have some knowledge on how to interpret the old writing, but only a little. Nonetheless, I translated each spell for you so that you could sound it out. It will still sound like nonsense on your tongue, but sometimes I find it rather fun to say things that sound like ancient garble." He couldn't help but laugh. "It looks like a bunch of scribbles, but you can still pretend to be reading it but know how to pronounce it- I made a guide on slips of notecard papers for your convenience."
"If you have any questions, feel free to ask! We shall go outside into the courtyard for this lesson, since I would feel more comfortable with a crowd of people attempting magic if we were... somewhere out in the open, if you will."
So once everything is settled in the classroom, everyone heads outside so we can make mages out of the students here. Oh boy, more destruction to school property.
((Edit: I should probably mention that it would likely take your character a few tries to even get results. Just to make it a little more realistic. %D Also, I encourage student-student interactions as well! <3 ))
