no power = chaos!

I was at work on Friday, being a good girl and staying back to finish up on MasterCard coding when right in front of my eyes everything disappeared. I was in the middle of an email chasing up receipts when the computer shut off along with the rest of the power. It was about 4.30-4.40 by this stage and I just figured I'd go home. As soon as I jumped in the car I heard on the radio that all the traffic lights along our main rd (trower rd) were all out. Shit. I was already driving up Lakeside Drive by this stage along with all the other uni staff members wanting to go home. About half way down lakeside I ran into the back of pack. The line up was so loooooong. I was shitting myself thinking I would never get out through this intersection. You can imagine what it was like trying to turn right from Lakeside drive with no traffic lights right in the middle of peak hour traffic on a Friday afternoon. I finally got to the front and gasped at the craziness. There were cars everywhere!! Cars in the middle of the road who'd come out of lakeside and were trying to get accross in between all the traffic coming down the higway from town. Then there were cars coming up Trower rd from Casuarina who wanted to turn right onto lakeside! I saw all the hesitation between the cars and decided to turn left, head towards casuarina way and just chuck a u turn first chance I got to go back the other way and go home. I trust my driving and that I could get across, but I didn' trust any of the other cars. Without the traffic lights ppl lose it and don't know what to do!

I got home and sure enough the power was out. It was frustrating. Who wants to come home on their Friday and sit in the heat with nothing to do? It went on for 8hrs. James came over and we went out trying to find tea as we couldn't cook anything. Woolworths nightcliff and all the shops around that were out. The fast food places up Bagot had power but were so incredible packed out that James and I felt ill just looking in. The drive through at McDonalds went way out into the street. The car park was overloaded ppl were parking on the street and nature strip. I tell you I haven't seen anything quite like it. We then drove back to Casuarina to see if Hungry Jacks had power, which it didn't as Casuarina had nothing and so did everything else around out. We decided to go to palmerston thinking we could escape the craziness and be with the relaxed palmo ppl who hadn't lost power. Turns out they were just as packed at every fast food outlet. So we went back home, heading into town as that was basically the only area with power. Of course all fast food outlets were packed out there too. It took us 2hrs of driving around but we finally got dinne! we had Mcdonalds as it had calmed down by then.

I had to shower in the candle light that night and went to bed at 10.30 but naked like a star fish on my bed. It was hot. And I missed out on home and away :(

power came on at midnight.

I got home from babysitting Saturday night about 10 past 11, jumped in the shower and was literally just thinking 'last night I was showering in candle light' when next second 'blink' goes the power. I'm standing in pitch blackness in the shower haha. So I had to get out and set up candles again.

I waited around a but but I couldn't be bothered putting up with no power for hours on my saturday night, so I went to stay over James's instead. Stuart Park had power :)

Apparently the power out was due to a massive explosion. It took them hours to repair. So many businesses had to close down, and with late night shopping on Friday's Casuarina would have majorly lost out. I didn't even think of the cinemas...
