Happy Birthday, Mr. Presidents

Feb 21, 2011 22:50

This President's Day weekend, I:

*Saw Jesse read from a wonderful story at an old can factory, as evidenced by this photo. Afterward, we took a windy walk from Gowanus to Park Slope to get some pizza.

*Finally went to the abstract expressionists exhibition in the MoMA, which had a bonus room of pop art. (Did I ever tell you that the big sandwich is one of my favorite works of art ever, and if I ever became mega-rich I'd try to buy it and maybe a couple of Calder mobiles?) It reminded me of the time my mom touched a Jackson Pollock in a museum and got yelled at.

*Went to a movie theater in Wiliamsburg! Since it's only a one-screen theater, I was expecting it to be dumpy, but it was actually pretty nice-looking. They have a beautiful bar--but no liquor license, so tea for now. I'm a little afraid once it gets up and running, it'll be "BAR plus movies," but it's a cool and interesting space right now, so I'll hold my reservations until later. (Also, they could've done a little better on the price considering how old the movies they play are.)

*Had a delicous, tasty, and totally satisfying brunch, then walked from Carroll Gardens to Red Hook to eat some more. (It's totally cool to have Baked desserts right after brunch, right?) From there, we walked to IKEA and checked out the piers there. Then, for the novelty of it, we took the bus all the way back through Brooklyn home. I love how it was totally not ideal weather to do any of that--the wind had died down by then, but it was still cold--but it didn't stop us. We can't wait until spring to live our lives when there are desserts to be had right now.

*Watched some crummy movies: The Other Woman, I Am Number Four, and the not-really-crummy Cedar Rapids. Also, the Duck Tales movie on DVD (also not crummy, though in need of some Magicka De Spell).

This long weekend helped me remember that, though not everything in my life is the way that I want it to be by any means, I have it pretty good. A reminder I received not a moment too soon, because I was pretty bummed out last week.

Also, sometimes I wonder if keeping this LiveJournal is worth it, because LJ is not the vibrant community it once was. Recently, I was going over entries I wrote in previous Februaries, and it really was a comfort. (It turns out that I'm always bummed out about something in February.) I take that as a sign to forge on with it.

A final happy thought: I leave for the great Arizona-Nevada-California adventure in 11 days! I am beyond excited.
