These (shoes) were made for walking.

I pulled off a no-Manhattan weekend. It's more of a feat than you might imagine, because we need Manhattan for its steady supply of movie theaters. But didn't hamper me this time, because this weekend there were no movies. I'm getting kind of sick of air conditioning anyway. Instead of movies, I undertook a few good walks. They were:

1. Around Williamsburg
We went on a loop that started at my apartment and had its first stop at the Domino Sugar Factory. Right now, in the absence of condos there's a tiny, cool little park there right on the East River and practically under the Williamsburg Bridge, as you can see from Jesse's photos. We looped around in Williamsburg, checking out the Giglio Festival along the way. I'm tempted by many varieties of unhealthy food, but I'm surprisingly immune to fair food. I like zeppole, but I don't feel an overwhelming urge to buy one every time I see one (unlike chocolate milkshakes).

2. Around Astoria
We walked from Jen and Nick's apartment to the Astoria Beer Garden. I've been to both places before, but a) never knew how close one was to the other, b) didn't realize I passed the Beer Garden every day on my way home from work, and c) didn't know how cute the houses in Astoria are. The night ended with many hours of Rock Band, which is just as awesome as everyone says it is.

3. Around Greenpoint
This wasn’t a walk so much as a super-long sit. Jesse and Ben hit up the Breeder's show at the McCarren Park Pool, and I'm not so much of a fan so I just spend the day in the park across the street. You can still hear everything perfectly (Matt & Kim sound super-cute), but you don't have to stand in the blazing sun in a crowd of people. I read the F. Scott Fitzgerald book that Jesse brought home while trying to make myself less gothly white. The first part was a success, the latter not so much. Afterward, we swung by the Giglio again and had yummy Italian food (not out of carts, because that's still kind of gross to me).

Now begins what I've dubbed the Week of Awesome. I just have to get through a decidedly non-awesome Monday, and then it's all happening.
