Today I went out to the backyard and practiced throwing my new "rabbit stick" that I fashioned at the first Hunting Guild last week. I hit the rabbit (aka, big log) only twice, but I did get in a lot of really powerful throws so I feel like I made progress. More practice will make even more progress.
Meanwhile, Jigsaw chilled out in his outdoor snake box for the first time since May (I only just brought the box home from PWC the other day).
During my throwing practice, I took a break to explore the area behind our backyard. Though I was looking specifically for feathers (lately I'm on a feather-finding kick), I instead found something maybe better: a clump of white mammal hairs. My best guess is squirrel, possibly tail or belly, since they were found at the bottom of an oak tree with a big drey built in the crook. I'm going to take them to this week's Guild (tracking!) to see what gumby might have to say about them.
What I learned today: the bases of trees are great places to find hairs! In addition to that initial clump, I found several more individual hairs just by looking very closely at the base of nearby trees. Awesome.
I'm going to try to do a "What I learned today" as often as I remember. Hopefully I can stick to it.
