Nodding off during the game

The other day I had the World Series playing on the TV, but I had the volume on mute. I had been listening to talk radio all day and when 5pm pacific time rolled around, I changed station to the 570AM (or whatever is it for Dodger Baseball). The two signals were not synched. The TV had a delay and as I listened to the radio play-by-play, I would hear about something exciting that happened so that I could tear myself away from social media to pay attention.

Sometimes I just get tired of a voice and I want to avoid it, like TikTok’s narrative male voice that is always catching my attention because of the fantastical images/video accompanying it. So, I sat thru the entire game this way, but that wasn’t yesterday’s Dodger’s win game. I thought of muting the TV but decided the series had been getting more interesting and I probably wouldn’t be double tasking while the game streamed on the TV. One thing I noticed was the play-by-play on the TV sound in favor of the Dodgers, but when I was listening to the game on TV, the sports announcer sounded more non-biased.

Game 5 was weird when the 6th inning showed Dodger pitcher getting tired. I thought he would be replaced (while the commercial was playing) but then when the game came back on, it was the 7th inning and there were already two men on base. I began wondering whether what I had seen was the sports announcer, cutting away from official ‘boring’ umpire business, commenting about a previous game or inning wherein game 5’s pitcher was being yanked out of the game.
