Being an Incomplete and somewhat Partial listing of Things which either Interest or Amuse me:
mome_awards: time is running out for voting in this 62-pairing 77-entry Lord of the Rings FPS/RPS fic contest. The variety of fic is wide, the quality high; there are classics from early days of the fandom and recently finished gems, all waiting for your vote. The ballots close at 11:59 p.m. EDT on October 31, so please
check out the ballot and get those votes in. In the spirit of being open, there are three stories from
The little AU nominated.
Sign-ups are still open for
50 days of Viggo hosted at
sons_of_gondor, in celebration of his 50th birthday. May we each celebrate ourselves and others, every day.
slashababy sign-ups are open. I really enjoy this exchange. From the site:
Sign-ups for SlashaBaby, the LotR RPS story exchange, are now open.
The rules are the same as previous years--try to fill at least parts of the request (especially pairings), and write at least 1,000 words. We want to make sure that somebody doesn't write ten pages of fic to only get a drabble in return.
* Sign-ups started October 16 and end on October 30
* Assignments will be sent out by November 6
* The deadline for submissions is December 23
* Stories will be posted on December 31
* Authors will be revealed on January 7

I've always been too intimidated to do
Yuletide, "The obscure fandom fiction exchange project" but there is great fic that comes out of it each year. If you have an obscure fandom love,
nominate it. Write for it. It's what the internets are all about.
In the past I've participated in
3_ships, I Saw Three Ships: A Threesomes Secret Santa which was a wonderful challenge that I thoroughly enjoyed (and which is open again- if you have a threesome, this is a wonderful place to offer and ask!);
volaslash Twelve days of Christmas and their alternate "The OtherVolaSlash" 12 Days project. That was fun, but I doubt I'll have time for it this year. I understand
vo_xmas is being carried on in
merryviggorli. There is still time to write fic for
galpalficathon I Will Not Be Afraid of Women: A Female Friendships Ficathon where there are some awesome prompts; and there is very good fic up at
livelongnmarry. I am guessing there will be or is a PotC fic exchange for Christmas; in the meantime the latest round of
potcfest stories are up. I don't know exactly what's going on in other fandoms that I brush against on my FL: SGA, Harry Potter, Man from Uncle, etc. but I'm sure there're good things going on there too.
Now on to the humor: two quite different topics each humorously treated in the manner of different kinds of game-playing. Each is hysterically funny even to a non-gamer like myself. And from each I learned something I would not have known before. Enjoy.
Adventuring Party Politics: The Campaign is Getting Ugly : the 2008 US Presidential campaign as an RPG, D&D style at
somehedgehog's lj. (thanks to
illuminated_sin for the heads-up.)
And then I was Eaten by a Grue,
eye_of_a_cat's DOS-based game-style essay on grading undergraduate papers. TAs have SO much empathy from me now.
And last but not least,
Hamlet's Facebook. I WISH I could remember whose lj I found this at, but at the moment it escapes me. If it was you, and you'd like credit, PLEASE say so and I will.
And I will away to my reading- something nearing 13 hours total sleep in the last 24 has cleared my brain well enough to read AND recall my textbook. YAY. And then off to class. XO
